While many MMA fans and insiders would consider Lyoto Machida the most elusive fighter in Mixed Martial Arts, FightMetric uses statistical analysis to prove that he’s actually the second most elusive(of the list they’ve assembled) mixed martial arts fighter. The stats below comes from the number of strikes a fighter takes divided by the number of minutes fought to give you the number of strikes absorbed per minute of fighting(SApM). Here’s the list:

    Frank Mir: 2.7 SApM
    Rashad Evans: 1.39 SApM
    BJ Penn: 1.23 SApM
    Georges St. Pierre: 1.01 SApM
    Anderson Silva: 0.71 SApM
    Lyoto Machida: 0.64 SApM
    Fedor Emelianenko: 0.59 SApM

As you can see Fedor Emelianenko has the lowest SApM with Machida coming in second. Take from this what you will, but these two fighters are very hard to hit.

Interesting, I wonder the accuracy of their counting though.

It makes sense. The thing about it though it's not "elusive" in Fedors case, it's just good old domination. He actually does the punching when not being punched more often than not. Machida is kind of like Fedor with 1/100 the aggression. When Fedor backs up, he stays with the man, when he goes for the punch, he's trying to kill you and not tag with lil jump double kicks.

He's one of those people you know... "Tim Sylvia will whoop his ****ing ass. He will give him fits" Fedor via Zulued... "Tim Sylvia was never a good fighter, he was worthless ****". Then "AA will whoop his ass." Fedor via KTFO "AA's chin is weak, don't mean ****." etc etc.

Maybe it's because Machida's fights usually last the full route, and he fights more minutes and has more chances of getting hit than Fedor, who finishes his fights by KO or sub.

I've rarely seen Lyoto get really hurt by strikes, because he doesnt get hit too often.

These aren't the latest SApM, the current are...

    Fedor - SApM is 0.53
    Machida - SApM 0.55
    Anderson Silva - SApM 0.73
