No, but I didn't have GSP as the #1, that is what I'm saying. You can't lose and still be number one before doing anything to win it back.
Well said; Diaz is really the only one with a legit chance, and it's not a good chance. Plus he is a US fighter anyway, so he doesn't fit the crazy posters criteria.
If GSP and Fedor fought at the same weight..............my money would easily be on Fedor. This really is what P4P means. GSP competes against similar sized guys while Fedor fights far larger guys.
I'm still saying I have him as #1 in the world CURRENTLY even with his recent loss. How can you say just because somebody lost means they can't STILL be #1? That's like if Pac fought Bernard Hopkins at 160 and lost, he'd lose his spot. I think most of us are wiser to know even at Hopkins age 160 is just to much for Pac, and he couldn't take the punches (of anybody half way decent). Now if Mayweather, and Pac fight (since they are around the same weights, and P4P #1 & 2 in many eyes) then I'd say the winner would probably become P4P #1. I think Pac's resume is better so that's why I'm saying "probably", and it depends how he loses. Controversial decision I doubt I could rank him over Pac...Knocks Pac down a couple times, KO's him, demolishes him with superior boxing I got no problems rating him over. Same case of Fedor. Fedor was a man possessed (unfortunately), and knocked Werdum down, trying to finish him, gets cocky, and careless..Gets caught. He was not dominated like Lesnar. He got caught much liek Lesnar in the first Mir fight (in which many people look over that loss). Fedor dominates for 10+ years...While others rack up wins and losses, and finally Fedor loses and these people overtake him? For the love of god GSP is one of the greatest fighters in the world, but yet...He even has 2 losses! People made such a huge deal of Anderson Silva yet he gets dominated for 20 minutes. People said Brock was the greatest thing even though he lost his 2nd fight, and now this one. So, it was an outstanding win for Werdum. Werdum is nowhere close to being #1 in the world though. He's a man with a decent record who used some wits to get the greatest win any MMA fighter could get. Nobody has a claim to being top HW in the world really. JDS and Cain are undefeated but there to green and new to find out if they got what it takes, Brock no need to discuss, Carwin can't even make it past 1 round, Werdum doesn't have the greatest record, etc. SO, for me to give anybody my vote for best HW in the world they need to be active, and acheive the type of wins that Fedor has...Unless of course Fedor retires.
Werdum isnt the best MMA fighter but when the fight goes to ground he suddenly becomes a wizard, afterall he is the best grappler in the world. Also JDS has already lost a fight outside UFC. If Werdum gets elevated above Fedor and if Cain and co gets elevated above Fedor then shouldn't Joaquim Ferreira be elevated to the top 5 as well? [yt]pt5TAWPgtHY[/yt]
Askren, in time, could probably be a pretty legit threat. It's too early to tell right now, as his game hasn't really developed completely yet, but his wrestling alone makes him a very interesting prospect.
Of course not, he lost his last match. Let him win couple matches and then he might get his number 1 position back
Even with losing his last fight who you seriously got over him, and what's your reasoning? IMO even if he lost another fight nobody has near the career, wins over big names, the years of domination, the record, etc that Fedor has. It'd take a hell of a man...Either skilled, lucky, or well protected to get there. So, I'm interested to hear why who's ranked over him, and why.
How about we go on what they did against each other, where available, as in the case of Fedor, Werdum, and Overeem, which Werdum takes. Or if that isn't available the quality of their wins and opposition, which puts Cain and JDS in strong standing as well, with Mir, Lesnar, and others filling in as well.
Because what happened in 2005 doesn't really effect the current rankings that strongly anymore. 5 years is a long time, those accomplishments don't continue holding the same weight they did at the time.
If he had defeated him recently, yes. That would make sense. That is not he case here. Dos Santos is on a 7 fight win streak since then; including wins against Werdum, CroCop, Gonzaga, and Nelson. Fedor lost his last fight. Fedor is on a 0 fight win streak. That does not take away from his all time status. It does take away from his right now status. If Fedor defeats Werdum he can go back to the top. If Werdum's injury prevents a rematch, Fedor can get back with a couple high profile wins.
I think I would at least have the guy he lost to over him. I don't see how that is really up for debate. It's not like it was a close decision win for Werdum. Werdum made him quit.
