coming off of reading a post about how a brock vs fedor fight would fair i wonder about something: who is a stronger grappler? yea lesnar is physically larger and probably has a more actual strength, but we've seen plenty of times that fedor just by virtue of growing up in sambo and being the man basically can manhandle people much larger than him when it comes to grappling. who would manhandle who when it comes to that aspect of the fight? who gets the takedown more often? as a whole i know fedor eclipses brock as a fighter and would most likely find a way to win, so if anyone replies to this keep it about grappling and not the fight as a whole.
also, if not someone like brock... is there anyone out there who would be able to out-grapple fedor? if so, who? and how would he do it? mariusz comes to mind because lets be honest, he could literally break people if he really wanted to. but mariusz would be a perfect example of fedor's brains vs mariusz' brawn. it'd boil down to brute strength vs technique with this one, but could he out do the greatest?
I think Fedors sambo background would prevail in a pure grappling match. I don't see Lesnar subbing him, and in a pure grappling match I think eventually Fedor would find a way to win. Lesnar's strength and grappling is perfect for him taking down, and controlling an opponents position so he can pound them out - but in a pure grappling match Fedors the favorite. Hell, even in full mma rules, I think Fedor still finds a way to win.
my thoughts exactly. Fedor reminds me of a prime Ali or prime RJJ. the way his brain works in a fight is just literally on a different level than the competitions. he processes the fight so quickly and effectively in his mind that it's probably rarely ever more than glorified sparring for him for a paycheck. I hope he retires undefeated(aside from the early BS cut loss thing).
If Lesnar played it safe Fedor would get him when he tired. If Lesnar came in too agressive Fedor would sucker him into some hold like he has done may times in the past imo...
Brock's grappling has moved up a notch thanks to Mir. His grappling is smarter as he is aware of the real threat that is submissions. Fedor is a much better grappler but he is much smaller. The Rogers fight did have me worried about his prospects against Brock but then the Couture fight has to make you think about Brocks chance vs Fedor.
If Fedor ever fights Brock, it will end with Fedor knocking him out with a punch. The fight will not be won on the ground.
I cant imagine Brock handling Fedor on the ground. Fedor's hips are to damn good. Lesnar has never seen anyone with the kind of strength, hips, technique and versatility of his back that Fedor has. Id love to see what happens when Brock is on his back I bet he would get totally destroyed. Its a shame he grabbed the fence twice vs Couture because he was in the air and ready to go down.
We've seen Fedor controlled by a better (ableit smaller) wrestler and win. The smart money says Fedor would armbar him, but I wouldn't discount Brock for a second. A short hammerfist or elbow could open up Fedors eggshell skin and lead to a stoppage. In fact, thats how Fedor will probably lose (if he does).
just grappling means just the grappling aspect of the fight. if you're gonna chime in then make it worth while.
Mariusz Pudzianowski: "I would love to fight Fedor Emelianenko. He will rip my head off if we fight today, but in two years it could be a different story". Tim Silvia on the other hand: "When Ill take him down (Tim Silvia) and start landing my bombs, he will lose every desire to get up. His handshake at the press conference made me realize that he has a very soft body. I like big and soft people, they are fun to hit."
Brock is far far far below Fedor in terms of grappling and even wrestling. Fedor is a very good Judo and Sambo practitioner. Most people just dont realise that Fedor is far better than 99% of Judo and BJJ fighters in MMA, Fedor actually has competed in top level Judo and represented Russia and came in third in Judo. This is saying allot because Russia has always been super strong in Judo.
Don't see how Lesnar has any chance in pure grappling really. His main chance would be to work ground and pound in a UFC match, take that away and he might be able to control him for a while, but I don't see how he finishes and as soon as he makes a mistake, he's tapping.
Pitting Mariusz with Fedor is insane. It would not be brains vs brawns, it would be brains vs someone who doesn't know how to grapple in the same galaxy of brillance that Fedor is in.
