Class interview. Its true of what happened Fedor got overly aggressive and made that mistake and lost for it. Ive never seen Fedor quite that wild with his GNP wild yes but agian not quite that wild. Im sure like he said in his mind he was in postion to finish the fight and badly wanted to quickly and maybe lost sight of just how amazing Werdum is on the ground. Takes a classy man to admitt his mistakes, not make excuses and move on. Had this been Tito Ortiz or Brock Lesnar well its yeah my back is broke or the guy got lucky it was a damn fluke blah blah.

 

Everybody understand what happened. Fabricio grabbed my arm, but I jumped to finish with strikes. Maybe my head hasn`t reacted 100%, maybe I realied on myself too much because I wanted to win as fast as I can - this is where mistakes came from. I think I was more pragmatic in the past. For example when I fought Nogueira I was not allowing the situation come even close to this.

Honest assessment of himself. He tried to force a TKO with his out of place GnP. Werdum wasn't seriously hurt and Fedor wasn't in good position to deal a lot damage while he is in a seriously dangerous position. The guy been winning too much for his own good, he forgot the dangers of fighting top calibar challengers. He just have to take a step back and analyze his mistakes instead of taking all his wins for granted.

 

Fedor has always been wild, but he was a smarter fighter in the past. He was only wild when in good position and doesn't not allow himself in such dangerous situation for long. Fedor could have freed his arm with Werdum if he wanted to at first, but instead he continue to focus on pounding the guy without any real weight or leverage behind the strikes. All this time while he left his left arm in Werdum's care for what felt like a century til Werdum finally wedge himself into an impossible lock for Fedor.

 

He made a mistake because he is used to beating on people. It's his gift and his curse. I agree that he wasn't wary or attentive enough to incoming threats. He made 2 huge mistakes - he let one arm get behind a black belts leg AND he let another arm go across a black belts centre. This is what led to a triangle/armbar. Beginners don't make such mistakes because they are fundamentals BUT Fedor has the history that would make him believe he could pound his way through. 99% of fighters would have thought defensively, credit to Werdum he was looking to force the sub by all means necessary.

 

Well my man even at Fedor's level you make mistakes. Go look at the Mundials or Abu Dhabi or something these world class Blackbelts get submitted and 95 percent of the times its after they make a mistake. Fedor is human he bleeds and makes mistakes.

 

100%. I would never bet against him because he always found a way even when he made mistakes. I never thought he'd get caught making these mistakes, not immediately correcting them and being caught in a double sub.
