It is not essential per se. But this discussiong turned towards "famous" aspect of this whole deal. Thats why Im bringing this Sambo part up. I don't know Fedor personally but if he's anything patriotic(which i think he is) it would be a solid downside in the contract negotiations. He DEFINITELY doesn't earn **** from Sambo. He competes in Sambo purely for the reason of raising the sport and he loves doing what he does. His contract moneywise is at least as good as UFC's I remember rumors going around at about 1.5mil(something around there) at the time. Than the new offer from M-1 came which was 2mil with comfortable contract clauses. On paper the contract looked great. He could fight any champion from any org. Get good money for it. Still be a Russian hero, etc. In reality Zuffa's is not gona let him fight anyone they own which is probably 90% of the best HW out there.
Doubtful, have you seen the Sambo competition videos? Look how many people are in the stands, they are empty. Look at what is recording the fights, homemade camcorders, doesn't look like a proffessional TV station broadcast to me. I think you are seriously over exaggerating the popularity of combat sambo.
It does not matter. This is what he loves to do, and he is right not to give a flying **** about opinionated fans in a foreign country.
Are you ****ing serious? he was watched by millions in pride, he was watched by dozens in Sambo. ****, how many people know who the number 2-5 Combat Sambo athletes in the world are? How many can name 1 other one even? I'm not demeaning Sambo, but the attention payed to Sambo is nonexistent in relation to the the attention paid to MMA.
