I just rewatched the Fedor - Coleman fight from Oct 2006 and what caught my eye is that Fedor weighted in at "only" 224 pounds. This was exactly 3 years ago. In the last couple of fights he regularly weighted in excess of 230 pounds, which IMO is too much for him, especially when, as it seems to me, nearly all of this new weight is fat. He seems more mobile at the lower weight, but you are free to disagree with me here... Could it be that he does not train that hard as he used to train anymore? I remember an interview with one of his trainers after the Arlovski fight, where he pointed out that Fedor has to train more for future fights if he wants to stay on top. What do you guys think? BTW I do not intend to "bash" Fedor in any way here, he is the best fighter in MMA to this date without a doubt.
I wish he'd lose some weight. I'm not a Fedor apologist for his striking OR his weight. 220-225 would be better.
Fighters like people in general gain weight as they age. It doesn't really have anything to do with training, it just happens. I suspect Fedor trains as hard as ever, but even the best fighter in the world is eventually going to loose to Father Time. He looked pretty good in his last fight, and the few extra pounds probably doesn't hurt him any. Adds a bit to his strength and ability to take a punch perhaps, and slows him down a bit, but nothing dramatic.
Just going by myself, I tend to pick up an extra pound or 2 with each year of age. From what I understand he continues to train and eat the same. I would say it is just age catching up.
I wish he would add weight, but do it by starting to lift weights reguarly again. This content is protected This content is protected
