I havn't done any excercise since christmas and I decided to get back into it yesterday. I did yoga, aerobics, a little bit of jogging and a few push ups, leg extensions etc at home. I didn't feel too tired or that I was pushing myself to hard but today I'm aching all over. Literally all over. My back, hips, ribs, arms and legs :-( cant even face yoga again today.

Anyway, my sister said it would be less effective if I did more today and that training 2 days in a row is bad even at peak fitness. Is she right?

She's right at this point because of recovery, if you were well trained however two days in a row would have been easily possible. Hell I just did about 30 in a row.

When you haven't exercised for a while, your body always needs 3-4 days to recover. After that, you'll probably be sore only one day. Now get your ass in a boxing gym and start throwing some punches, instead of that yoga ****.

Indeed. Most female boxers have great bodies, while most yoga types are starving to death hippies :D

I think you can tell by the curve of my ass <<< that I'm not wasting away. I do love yoga though. Is it right that you shouldn't stretch cold muscles? My sister seems to be a font of knowledge all of a sudden. I thought you were supposed to stretch before hand? She reckons that's why I'm aching :huh

Before workouts you warm up and do dynamic stretching, which basically means rotating your limbs. Start with little movement and as you get warmer increase it. After workout static stretching is usually recommended, these are the stretches you hold for 10-15 seconds. Your sister is right about stretching cold muscle. You are aching, however, because you damaged your muscles, which is completely normal and has to do with you exercising instead of not stretching.

I don't want to wait 4 days. I'll leave it until monday and keep it light, see how I go.

Eat alot of protein to repair muscle. I find having a nice, hot steam in the bath helps

Thanks. I like a good excuse for a soak. So today I did more high impact aerobic exercising and no yoga. I want to build my stamina up a bit before I concentrate on my muscle toning. So, who wants to go first and tell me I'm wrong today? :D

Go about your business and stop worrying about "muscle tone"... just workout, to get in shape. I tell you i'd rather be with a somewhat overweight girl than one who sports a six pack. :barf Muscle tone is a masculine property anyway.

That's fine, it's not a vanity thing. My shape is fine, I'm content with how I look but I have zero upper body strength! I don't want to be all big and muscley, I think that can look a bit gross on a woman, I just want to be a bit stronger!

it's 80% Vanity with me, now that i plan on returning to compeitive sport. I suggest activitys like swiming can give a woman..enough resistance to tone your muscles "anyone as a matter of fact, and then mix it up with some basic aerobic conditioning, the cross trainner is fantastic for women, it's a Aerobic Workout but at the same time. You can manipulate the resistance, it was created orginally for Olympic Skiers..!
