Can anyone give me a summary on Savon? Im trying to get some knowledge on him, but as with a lot of amateurs videos can be hit and miss whether theyre worth watching. What fights should i watch of his? I was only 8 when he retired so I missed him, and how would he have fared against Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis etc? Is it true he turned down $25 million from Don King to defect and fight Tyson? Any info much appreciated
At the risk of sounding condescending, google is your friend. There is a lot of information online should you care to look. Also take a look at Teolfilio Stevenson and Roberto Balado.
Savon was the natural transition for Cuba following Stevenson. Stopped Tua with a single punch in the Olympics, on youtube :good EDIT: now I'm at home. He was (not unlike his fellow countryman Stevenson) great at being a fully developed man beating on underdeveloped teens. He'd have been toast against those guys you named in the pros.
Thats cos he allegedly had a fondness for fully developed men which he didnt hold for the teens. Ask doormen in and around Havana.
