I was watching a few heavyweight division fights from lennox lewis, riddick bowe and the klitschko brothers and it made me think that felix savon had a lot better skills than they did. Most of them are just big and strong and beat up on smaller guys. They are not that good in the boxing department just big guys with a big punch and a strong jab. Felix Savon knew how to box plus he was big and strong also with a big punch and athletic ability. We'll never know but in my opinion Savon could've easily did what Lennox Lewis did and better. The only guy i see him losing to is to a prime mike tyson.

I agree, beating the **** out of teenagers at the Olympics in four two minute pugilstic rounds warrants him over ATG Heavyweight champs.

Sure, then Chagaev is ATG №1 because he dominated Savon twice.

He is wondering what could have happened. If you don't have any imagination or ability to think just don't comment. And for the record he was a brilliant boxer and would have made a great professional champion IMAO

Exactly. The assertion that because someone does well in the Olympics they're gonna dominate in the pros is nonsense.

Naw man. Savon was a great amateur but the pro game is a lot different.

Still, most of the time he was the more experienced than his opponent. But the main problem IMO would be rather that already in his times amateur and pro boxing were almost different sports. Using headgears, different gloves (if I remember well) and fighting only a couple of minutes really makes difference. Ask Henry Tillman for example ;-)

I do take back one of my statements. In his last two Olympic medal final matches his opponents were about 27 years old.

Ruslan Chagaev beat Felix Savon in the amateurs. What did Wlad do to Chagaev?

When Savon himself was still a teenager he already beat the sh*t out of others too, so STFU.

And people like you are stupid enough to believe that amateur boxing an professional boxing are the same sports. They're not...especially at heavyweight. There have been plenty of great amateur champs who failed misserably at the pro level and plenty of fighter will little or no amateur experience who succeeded.
