Three time middleweight world titlist Felix Sturm has settled with Universum, and will return to the ring on September 4th. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=24453&more=1
Sturm's weight was outrageous, but he seems to think he has it under control. I guess we will find out if all those fights against **** poor opposition were really Universum's fault.
It's a two way street regarding the Universum and the quality of the opposition. It's obvious they made a good money even in the fights against Sato and other 'world beaters'. Sturm is popular in Germany so he could also fight anyone and get some buts in the seats (plus TV). The problem is that when he wanted the fight with say AA (and to a lesser extent against Pavlik, as there wasn't probably enough money there), he couldn't do a damn thing about it as Universum was pulling all strings. With AA and Sauerland I had a different felling. If AA wanted to fight at North Pole, Sauerland would let him. Sauerland even let him go back to Miranda's backyard because he wanted the rematch so badly. Sturm never had such a relation with Kohl. Anyway, the split with Universum unfortunately came a couple of years too late. We'll probably never know how it would have played among the three of them.
You can blame HBO for Pavlik/Sturm not happening. They offered $2 million total. Why would they fight each other for that kind of money when they could come close to that fighting the Espinos and Satos of the world?
so true... sometimes the digits dont work...and we know that after a loss you are back at the bottom again.
I've always felt bad for sturm. I remember watching him beat ODLH and just knowing it wouldn't matter with the super fight pending.
yeap, it's Rubio. it's okay for the beginning, but let's hope he decides to step up immediately afterwards. He's already in the 30s, time is ticking away.
