Simon leads with hooks and uses them to set up right hands when they are muffled by the crossed wrists of MA. Simon begins to grind his way inside and land a few uppercuts. MA goes down from a body shot but gets up again. MA loads up on some looping shots to try and command some respect but Simon just keeps plugging away and again drives MA into the corner with right hands. MA, bleeding from the mouth, holds and is warned for holding. Simon whacks him into the ropes with a right hand. Body shoeshine from Simon. MA grabs him and Simon digs a right to the body. Uppercuts and straight right hands either land for Simon or do the job of moving MA backward. One particular straight right has MA in bad trouble but he is saved by the bell.

It is stopped fairly early in the round as a hard 1-2 sends MA bouncing off the ropes; Simon chases after him with a pin-point hook as he strafes parallel to the ropes. A few more shots thudding on the body and rattling the guard of MA are enough to convince the referee to call the TKO.

 

Simon would be a good fight for Lemieux right now (and a nice little slugfest and contrast in styles).

He's lacking a good jab. If he had a really good jab he'd resemble the 140lb version of Cotto a bit. Those looping hooks to the body and the uppercuts on the inside were effective enough, but his style demands an authoritative jab to be really successful at higher levels.

 

We get a "bonus" swing bout due to the early end in Simon-Abdurakhmanov.

A heavyweight four-rounder between Erkan Teper, a debuting German and Marcel Zeller, someone who looks like they scraped him off a bus station floor.
