Pavlik isn't going to Germany. It would be great if he did, but it's overall a pretty unreasonable demand on Sturm's part.
i can understand sturm not wanting to come here and kelly not wanting to go there...any chance of a neutral site :think
I doubt it. Kelly likes to fight where the home town crowd can travel to. Arum claims Dubia? has expressed interest in hosting a fight. Big money there. I think it would be an excellent site for the fight myself if they put up the cash. I think Kelly needs to expand his world a tad.
Has anyone noticed how Sturm became more and more muscular during the last years while staying at MW? He's really big and ripped for a MW now. FMJ would ask for 100 random blood tests if they were to meet. I think Sturm wanted to become stronger in order to compensate for his lack of punching power. He still hasn't a got punch, and he hasn't become better either - on contrary, he lost speed and agility. Sturm moving up to SMW is a bad idea - no chin & no punch won't get him far there. As for Sturm vs. Pavlik, my money would be on Pavlik. Pavlik would keep coming the whole night and put pressure on Sturm - Sturm would land some jabs, and even if his defense is very good, Pavlik would eventually get to him and catch him. Sturm is no Hopkins after all.
Sturm WAS once very, very good, had an incredible punch variety, accuracy and speed, and was untouchable. Basically he WAS a Hopkins/Mayweather with no power. Then he found out the stupid crap ass audience wants traders who bleed from every pore after the fight, and subsequently tried to desperately develop "power" with the muscleing up. That backfired extremely, as he still didn't have more true power, but got considerably slower - not being untouchable anymore. He was middleweights Mayweather, but degraded himself into a Pavlik with no power, with that stupid muscle thing. The neverending scheme is, IF he could get back to the speed he once had, and the combination punching instead of one-punch-a-time, he would beat Pavlik silly. Pavlik wouldn't even connect on him or see his punches. But that was like 5 years ago, today, and with his current lack of speed superiority, I can't figure him not getting hit by Pavlik. We saw what happened when Castillejo landed flush on him, he went down every time, and later stayed down.
Sturm himself says he needs until May/June to lose the weight. I doubt if Top Rank/Team Pavlik will wait that long to get KP back in the ring. When the Sturm/Roach talk first emerged Felix seemed quite sincere about wanting a "big fight with Kelly Pavlik in the USA." All of a sudden he signs a 10 fight deal with a German TV station, and wants the fight in Cologne.atsch
