Felix Sturm: what went wrong?

    One of the worst, most sudden, losses in form I've ever seen. How did he get so bad so fast? He ( literally) went from a guy who couldn't miss Barker and Radosevic to a guy who couldn't land - or hardly even throw - against Soliman.

    Explainations please.....

    I've not seen the fight Len,so I don't know how bad he looked, but I was thinking Soliman was maybe just his bogeyman?

    Certainly, Ryan, that deffo played a big part in it. But it can't be the whole story, cos he fought the same guy previously, right?

    In the first fight Felix was totally unprepared yet he did much better.
    This time he couldn't seem to even throw a punch, never mind land one. Even his signature punch, the jab was totally absent.

    Sweet, sweet justice. Looks like old Father Time caught up with Sturm after all them years wasted keeping his belt hostage in Germany fighting nobodies. He has a rematch clause but Soliman has bigger and better fish to fry with the one they call Triple G. The silence at the end of the fight was deafening, Sturm and his legion of fans, all in the moment of realisation that this cherry-pick had gone horribly awry. Sturm should now retire with grace. He has absolutely no business dining at the top of the MW table anymore.

    bear in mind you're alone on here in taking the barker performance as evidence of anything other than both legs being vital to boxers.

    No no youre wrong there Anto!
    Barker assured us he was certain to win, perfect in every way BEFORE the fight. So did Hearn. Check it out - Barker COULDNT lose - and a lot of people travelled to see him beat Sturm. No other result was possible.

    His hip gave out only cos Sturm clobbered him.

    Anyway what happened to Sturm on Saturday?

    In all seriousness its a crying shame Barkers hip went. A fully fit Barker would have been an interesting fight.

    Whether you think Sturm created the injury through 'clobbering' barker is irrelevant, all that matters is the fight ended early because of the injury, therefore we didn't get to see properly what Sturm had left. He could very well have been going downhill behind closed doors for the last 2 years.

    me and everyone else on this forum save you.

    that's some punch to make him need surgery on that hip 3 years previously.

    He was bad going into the Barker fight, Just lucky Barker sustained the injury.

    Sturms been declining since the Macklin fight with losses to Geale/Soliman 2x, robbing Macklin/Murray and avoiding GGG like the plague

    Nah, Sturm was looking like a man possessed on the night they met. Darren would have still lost, IMO.

    Thats up to him. He wont want to go outon a loss. Plus there is the big money one with Arthur Abraham there for him. That being said he needs to get to the bottom of what happened Saturday. No point on fighting on just to take beatings.

    Seriously the fight was extraordinary. Sturm went into it coming off the Radosevic and Barker fights where his punches were like laser-guided missiles.
    He had already IMO drawn with Sam in his worst-ever performance, and here he was well-prepared, knew all about Sams octopus style, was fit etc.


    (But I dont buy a "conspiracy" theory he lost to boost a third match, HNH. No way is that the reason, whatever else is)

    Ding! The bell rings and Sturm spends the next 12 rounds trailing around cluelessly following Sam like a little lost pup, getting hit over and over again often with such "silly" punches that you'd be annoyed with a novice for letting them hit him.

    Seriously - he was awful, brainless, flat, no plan, no clue.

    You could normally bet your life on Sturms jab - he hardly landed one all night. I mean - come on- Sturm could jab with his last dying breath, you would say!
