Word is that the great Freddie Roach will be training him now ... What do yo think this could do for his career ? What do you think his chances will be like against a guy like Pavlik with roach in his corner ? Thoughts on his future ?

Strum is just an insignificant belt holder who will get destroyed if ever dares to fight an A class fighter.

I dont think that Roach will be able to help him a lot.The reason why he has switched his coaches is that he has left Kohl and his fight promotion.
Otherwise he would never have left his old coach Timm who is one of the most capable trainers in the paid ranks.

Besides whoever will be in his corner against his mandatory Golovkin is in for a hot ride on a roller coaster.
I for my part tend to think that Golovkin will be the toughest opponent Sturm has faced in his entire career up to now.

Oh come on, did you forget the DLH fight? He looked pretty A class against the "boxing superstar".

Roach seems to be pretty careful in who he allows his guys to fight. Even allowing a Pavlik match up would be saying something. He may end up as protected here as ever.

Hopefully getting Roach gives them the push to fight someone like Pavlik.

I thought Pavlik and Sturm were close to a deal and Pavlik wanted more than the 2 million he was gonna get.

Two million was the TOTAL amount HBO offered. That's pretty much an insult to both fighters for a middleweight unification bout.

I'm saying the comment above i quoted was from a guy who said sturm should push for a Pavlik fight I was pointing out he tried. And yes they are worth more. They should fighti n one of those 60,000 people soccer stadiums that would be exciting

Is Pavlik such a big draw over there in the states??
Sturm for sure wouldnt sell 60.000 tickets in Germany.Pavlik is totally unknown in Germany, and Sturm is no household name there.
In terms of popularity he cant hold a candle to fighters like AA or the Klitschko brothers:-(

Sturm WAS a super-capable top level fighter with the potential for a superstar. It was actually his handlers fault that they didn't interfer with Sturm listening to his BODYBUILDER friends "how to get a bigger punch" - making him slow, but still with no punch. So, Timm is not even close to being a top level trainer. HE transformed Sturm from an improvising superfast combination puncher who had a bag of tricks to boot and clowned every fighter he fought, to a one-punch-at-a-time ultra-cautious slow one trick pony. HE made Sturm doubt his reflexes and improvising skills and fan appeal, leading into his trading approach that got him the KO loss vs. Castillejo. HE didn't encourage Sturm to keep his improvising and surprise punching, although that would have made him a superstar in the US. A top trainer like Roach would have told Sturm to quit the **** with trying to become a "puncher", and polish his very good skills and extreme speed. He was a middleweight with featherweight speed at the expense of no punch, but he clowned everyone until he slowed down. Only after that slowing down happened, he became hittable and had close affairs with the likes of Gevor.

Hey Odo -- I'll weigh in for a moment.

I really think Pavlik/Sturm is worth more than the proposed $2 million. That fight would put the linear middleweight champ against a 3 time world titist who, by hook or by crook, has managed to hold a world title for most of the last 6 years.

Sturm is a good looking and charismatic kid who can box a bit. Pavlik is a popular American who can sell out Boardwalk hall fighting pretty much anything with a pulse.

Historically and traditionally the middleweight division has been the second most prestigious division in boxing, and in this one we are talking about a unification fight.

Finally there is the risk factor: What's left for the loser? Sturm is as light as he can go at 160, but he's not big enough to compete at 168. On Pavlik's side of things, after the Hopkins shellacking, and all the other hits he's taken recently, he'd have a choice between retirement, and going back to ESPN and Versus.

The fight is definitely worth more than $2 million. If things work out for Sturm and Roach, hopefully Roach's connections and prominence will drive HBO's offer up a bit.
