Felix Tito Trinidad vs Sugar Shane Mosley at 147 lbs, Both Prime. Would Tito stop the quicker Mosley? Or would Sugar Shane put on a boxing clinic?
Trinidad's timing, reach, straighter punches, better foundamentals and power would see him time and smash Mosley's open defense on the way in. If you look at the Forrest fight, you can only think Trinidad would be able to perform aswell as Forrest.
I always favored Trinidad in this matchup. His straight, accurate power punches would put enough hurt on Shane to put him in a shell. Mosley's handspeed would be problematic for Tito early, but once Tito warmed up and found the range, he'd begin to take control. Trinidad had a much higher ring IQ than Mosley. Trinidad by punishing UD.
Some good arguments already mentioned for Trinidad. Some of which I agree with. I myself am undecided. This would be a great match up and one which would have generated a huge pay per view presence.
Tito has other style than Forrest and Wright. Plus his decent chin (often knocked down in second round....) Mosley by decisions I think. If we have prime Mosley from 2000
Trinidad would have been too relentless even for Shane Mosley. The more skilled technicians usually gave Trinidad the most trouble but Mosley didn't have the ring smarts to easily outbox Trinidad. I'll take Trinidad by convincing decision in a great fight.
Whenever Tito got decked, it seemed to wake him up. But I do think that the speed of Mosley would be a problem early in the match, but Felix would eventually prevail, as he would be the aggressor, slipping the Sugar Shane counters, to constantly land his own combos and right hands. It goes the distance with Trinidad as the winner on points.
Definitely one of the fights we missed out on. I like Tito and I think this would be close just a clear decision.
Welterweight wasn't Mosely's best weight though he had his best success their. His power at the weight was clearly diminished, though he did retain his speed. Conversely it was Trinidad's best weight, where he was at his absolute best dynamically. The fight would go the way most of Mosley's losses went. After tasting Trinidad's power early. Mosely would become reluctant. I've watched almost every Mosely fight he had as a pro, and his losses had the same pattern. His plan "A" is taken away from him, he gets that dear in the headlights look in his eyes , looks confused, hesitant, goes on to lose the decision. Thats exactly what would happen against Trinidad. And there's a good possibility Trinidad unlike any of his opponents could stop him late. Trinidad was that good offensively.
