rumors were circulating for awhile about tito trinadad fighting with loaded gloves.fernando vargas talked about it.we all know about the cast his father wrapped on tito's left hand before hopkins team was even in the dressing room.they needed a bolt cutter to cut it off.

anyways i always thought something was very strange and just wrong in the thiam fight. he hit thiam with a left hook/uppercut and within seconds his eye swelled shut and his forehead and face just was swelled up all within seconds.i have NEVER seen something like that.never by a punch anyway.the only time i ever seen something like that is when someone was hit with a pipe.his fight with joppy was a strange looking fight as well.

    thoughts?

There was definately always suspicion.I dont think they were loaded, but I think they may have been taped illegally.

This has been so played out...

Funny thing is, both Joppy and Vargas claimed to have gotten information on Tito's wrpas BEFORE they fought Tito. Joppy said he was warned by..Rahman I believe?...and Vargas,m an unnamed source from Puerto Rico.

So, two guys warned IN ADVANCE, and come fight night, their corners approve the wraps obvisouly.

Only AFTER Hopkins made a fuss did they open up and complain.

Sour grapes. If they had anything solid, they'd have said something first.

I am convinced Tito had loaded gloves against Thiam, Vargas an Joppy. His "power" in those fights looked unbelievable.

Unfortunately there is no way to prove it.

Trinidad was one of the hardest welterweight punchers of all time. Equilibrium destroying punches with pin point technique and accuracy. Get the **** over it. Go buy Trinidad's career set and find some of his amateur fights. He hit JUST as ****ing hard. Do you want to know something relevant? Trinidad broke both of his hands in 1 fight, early in his career and his camp had to adjust the way they were wrapping his hands to prevent them from breaking again. When you hit that hard, and you are hitting a human skull any which way you can, breaking your hand is very likely!

Many other fighters have STACKED their knuckles in similar fashions. De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, and Marco Antonio Barrera have also stacked over their knuckles to protect their hands. Freddie Roach once said that before one of Barrera's fights, his corner had to actually cut the glove open to get his fist in and out of the glove, otherwise it wouldn't have fit. If it was a REAL issue, than De La Hoya (and many others) would have complained about Trinidad's wraps as well. But no body does you know why? Because in boxing the way boxers wrap their hands slightly varies from boxer to boxer to fit their taste. I've been around a lot of amateur fights and I have seen the way trainers wrap hands, and its a fantastic art form to be honest.

I have heard from local trainers who've been in the game for quite some time, and they say the way Trinidad hands were wrapped were absolutely perfect for protecting his hands.

So stop ****ing smearing Trinidad's legacy by bringing up some hypothetical nonsense like loaded gloves, ffs.

And to answer your question, yes peoples eyes swell up from a single punch. Do you really understand how hard a regular boxer can punch? Let alone one of the hardest punchers of all time. The way Trinidad caught Thiam, with that left uppercut/left hook combination was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. That would have busted most fighters eyes up into a swollen mess.

People swell up in different manners. That hardly counts as evidence.

And Joppy's face was almost disfigured vs. Hopkins. More so then against Tito.

Pretty much this. I have done some Kenpo and training in boxing gyms. Different trainers have taped my hands different ways, and when I found one I liked I stuck with it. My hands felt more comfortable and I let my punches go a lot more naturally. Whether that added a ton of power or not, I don't know.

Why did their corners approve the wraps Pat? Especially since both Joppy and Vargas claim to had been warned BEFORE they fought tito? Care to give it a shot?:huh

That's because Thiam's head was there to be hit solidly.

It was like a baseball bat to a stationary tee-ball.

You'd smash that thing outta the ballpark.

That dude was not a defensive wizard at all.

Well, Margarito was obvious. Never heard anything about Tito's wraps until I joined here.

Why did Joppy's corner approve of them if they were:
    1. Loaded
    2. Supposedly warned in advance?
    :huh
