Yeah, I like Brown, he was a good and possibly underrated fighter, but Trinidad was simply better. I think Brown has his moments, but I can only see Trinidad as the winner.
I favor Tito but only slightly. Simon Brown was a helluva Welterweight in his own right. Brown could really punch. Trinidad would probably find himself on the canvas at some point. Felix Trinidad was bigger, taller and maybe a shade quicker and he had uncommon stamina. Simon Brown was supposed to be an easy mark for Terry Norris 7lbs North but that didn`t work out too well. This is a tough fight and it is a FOTY candidate almost any year.
Terry Norris couldn't take Brown apart in 2 fights and Trinadad was dropped far more times in his prime than Brown.
I went with Tito by decision. I know most picked him to knock out Brown.. But Simon wasn't stopped until he ascended beyond the welterweight division and was past his prime at that.. Preventing him from seeing the final bell would have been tough at welter.
I picked Trinidad by KO but Brown was very good. When he was at his best he lost a SD to Starling, stopped Trice x2, stopped Vaca, beat Santana, and stopped his good friend Blocker. He lost his title to McGirt in an upset. He upset Norris by 4th round KO (a stiff jab). Norris won by clear decision in their rematch. By the time he fought Pettway he was past prime but was still expected to win. Pettway won a back and forth battle, KO6. I could see Brown upsetting Trinidad by KO but Trinidad would most likely beat Brown.
That's cause Norris attacked with reckless abandon and hung his dodgy chin out to dry. I loved watching Brown chop him up though.
In retrospect McGirt would probably be favored over Brown but at the time of their fight Brown was the favorite.
Good matchup Prime Brown is a bit underrated, I think. Trinidad is a little bigger physically and can box a bit better. Brown would probably lead. I think Trinidad would be able to land on the outside, but Brown was strong and if he can get inside, he can do some damage. I think though that Trinidad had the reach to score effectively as Brown came in. Brown's medicore defense would likely be his undoing. Prime Brown was very durable, though, so I see Trinidad winning by UD. No KO here.
Brown is actually being OVERRATED here. Or Tito is being underrated. One of the two. Trinidad was the better fighter. Period. It's really not up for debate. AND the styles favor Trinidad. Brown was a talented offensive fighter. Trinidad was an EXCEPTIONALLY talented offensive fighter. Trinidad was much more solid defensively than Brown as well.
