Absolutely False! The guy gets outboxed by a Prime Oscar Delahoya, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright and Roy Jones and all of a sudden his skills SUCK? Those 4 mentioned are some of the best strategists, most skilled, and gifted "boxers" of our generation. 3 of whom are naturally bigger then Tito, and 2 of them are MUCH bigger.
Uhh.... Hate to break it to you like this but Tito isn't that good... He WAS popular but now a days he isn't the biggest fighter on the island anymore. Wonder why he came back to fight RJJ? Jealousy. BTW tito is limited.
tito was damn good against guys that came to fight though. :yep don't punch it out with tito at 147 or 154 if u wanna be the same fighter u were when u entered the ring. tito was brutal. atsch
If you are going to use the bigger than tito arguement then what is the purpose of weight classes? The fights happened at agreed upon weights and Tito knew what he was getting into. ODH strategy didn't work too well for him though..
Tito relied alot of power. Power is a part of "boxing" whether you like to recognize it or not. Against bigger guys fighters power can be nullified and that fighter can appear to be alot less of a boxer/fighter then he really is. Also, Tito slowed down as he moved up and it showed in his "boxing ability". At 154lbs he was fast, hands, head movement and his footwork was much better. Just go and compare the Tito from the Vargas fight to the one in the Jones fight. But the answer is still the same. Tito didn't suck. If he retired after Destroying Jopppy for the middleweight title this wouldn't even be a question :deal
Completely agree with you regarding the retirement thing.. Had he stayed retired we wouldn't have seen him beat up by RJJ, Winky... Power does play a role in boxing no doubt, but if you know you are fighting someone who has fought more powerful fighters than you, you have to adjust. That is why I said Tito is limited, b/c as you said he relies A LOT on his power. When that didn't work, he was in trouble and couldn't adjust. Perfect example was in the early rounds of the RJJ fight... RJJ tested Tito's power by letting him hit his body.. The shots weren't effective and it was all downhill from there.
