Felix Trinidad = underrated.

Mosley came up to 147lbs to fight Oscar right after the Tito vs Oscar fight and Tito had already gone up to 154lbs. Mosley didnt go to 154lbs until Tito went up to 160lbs so I failed to see your logic on that one....Mosley called out Tito while Tito was retired :yep

 

He was a great fighter in his prime, but one thing is for sure he did not beat Oscar De La Hoya, Oscar De La Hoya schooled him.

 

Don't really see how Trinidad is underrated by anybody. He's a first ballot HOF'er and had a great career at 147 and 154. There were just a few guys out there that had the style to beat him. No shame in that! At least he had the balls to fight the best. Can't say that about Mayweather can we.

 

I think I had him around the 16th or 17th top boxer of the last 25 years. I think that's fair, and I think most non-biased boxing fans would concur, so no, I don't think he is underrated.

 

I think he is underrated by many. Like the guy who said he never faced a legit champ until BHOP. That's just B.S. Tito is a legend.

And BTW Oscar did not "school" Tito. Oscar won a close decision perhaps but no one schooled anyone in that fight. Winky and BHOP against Tito - now those were schoolings.

 

I don't think he's underrated in general, I just think that recently he's been underrated in comparison to DLH. Considering The Ring had him ranked over 20 spots higher in their 80 Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years back in 02, I think it's a shame that DLH was beating him out more than 3 to 1 in the 5 greatest fighters of the last 25 years thread/poll.

The fact of the matter is that essentially, all DLH has over Tito is that he drained more weight from the get go to fight at 130. I'm the kind of guy that thinks the whole weight class jumping thing can be overrated considering that unlike PBF, DLH was still fighting smaller men in his 4th weight class.

And since Tito's 1st retirement they have BOTH performed poorly. I certainly don't see how 1 quality win (Mayorga in the fashion he beat him in his first fight after two years off is a good win) and 2 bad losses is so much worse than 1 quality win (if it counts for Tito it can only be a marginally lesser win for DLH since it was 2nd), 2 clear losses (Hopkins, PBF 'that was no split decision') a controversial loss (Mosley) 2 nothing fights (Campas, Forbes) and a controversial win in Sturm that DLH would just vault him like that.

My personal opinion is that Tito slightly edges him out, and I stated my reasons why in PacFan84's thread last week. But at absolute worst the two are more or less even.

 

no it was a schooling, oscar won 8 of the first 9 rounds, easily outboxing him. it wasnt even close. he made trinidad look foolish and amatuerish

 

Tito is amazing one of the best.

tito was a great KO puncher but he wasn't a 'great' fighter.

however, he was a great PPV fighter and i loved watching him fight.

i don't think people under-rate him.

but i do think he was a notch short of greatness.

the fight he lost to hopkins was a masterclass from hopkins IMO.

 

Ok so you mean Tito got schooled just like Oscar got schooled by Pernell, Ike, and especially Felix Sturm? Ok now I get it.

I admitted earlier on that De La Hoya could've have easily gotten the decision in the Trinidad fight. It was close, watch it with the sound off. It was no schooling. A schooling is what Bhop or Winky did to Tito.

DLH fans complain about the Tito fight but never say anything about Hoya's gift decision such as Sturm. Interesting huh?

 

well thats a fair call. i agree with what you say there.

 

I admit about the hoya-sturm fight, but that fight means jack ****. oscar was 2-3 weight classes above his best fighting weight and he showed up FAT.

trinidad-oscar fight both were in there prime weight class, a big fight at their peaks and oscar won EIGHT of the first 9 rounds!!!!

I dont hold the winky fight much against tito, he was 2 weight classes above his best fighting weight and rusted as hell

trindad was a true champion, i like that he fought evry one and had great skill and power, definately underrated imo. :good
