Felix Trinidad vs Kelly Pavlik at 160

Yeah he's got grenades but the range on his grenades was limited(72") and would have to hit a target across the grand canyon(Pavlik jab).

 

Tito wouldnt have much trouble landing over Pav's slow ass jab. This isnt Gary Lockett we're talking about here.

 

Yes he was the better fighter by far but we encounter this quite often with these sorts of matchups.

One recent example is Quarry versus Hearns at 200. Now noone will question that Hearns is the better boxer but there is no way in hell that he'd be able to deal with Quarry at these altitudes. The bottom line is that Quarry was a natural HW(albeit a smallish one) and was accustomed to taking and dishing out HW punishment. Quarry would walk through a blown up welterweightbit by bit 9 out of 10 times. Same situation with Pavlik v Tito. Tito was a devastating puncher...at 147. Pavlik, however, is a natural LHW who is currently fighting at 160. He would enjoy a big height and reach advantage and is very, VERY comfortable fighting BIG(great jab, straight right). Tito would still be a big puncher at 160 but not big enough to compensate for the 1-2's he'd have to endure over 12 rounds.

Pavlik 7 times out of ten by stoppage.

 

Thats a dumb comparison considering Hearns never did anything significant above 175, and never even competed at heavy.

Tito coulda easily ruled 160 had not run into a PRIME Hopkins. Notice I said prime, not the 43 year old Hopkins that Pav got embarassed by.

It takes more then a basic one-two puncher to beat Tito. You need preferably movement to pull the trick, and thats something Pavlik lacks. This fight would be a shootout, and trading with Tito plain and simple was murder. Pavlik has heavy hands, but Tito was a legit devestating puncher. And consider the fighters Pavlik has controled with his jab. Bums like Miranda, Rubio, Zuniga, Lockett are not hardly the same as facing Tito.

 

Tito has a great MW win(Joppy) and another really good MW win(Mayorga) but I don't think there's enough evidence to claim that he would have ruled the division for years.

Pavlik will not be the same once the Tito of 2001 nails him with a right hand. Tito is great finisher and pavlik is not athletic enough nor does he have the defense to survive when he gets in trouble

 

Trinidad won atleast 2 rounds vs Hopkins while Pavlik didn't win in any rounds vs a 43 years old Hopkins. Hopkins was 36 when he fought Trinidad. And Trinidad landed more punches on Hopkins then Pavlik did.

 

Trinidad that fought Joppy and Hopkins would have ko Pavlik that fought Miranda and Taylor. Pavlik will be stronger in bodysize but he's too slow for Trinidad in which i could see Trinidad landing a fast left hook that Pavlik doesn't see it coming.

 

Tito would punch holes in Pavlik, Tito demolishes him in style

 

FUNny how things change!! A lot of ppl have looked stupid (specially in the 1st-page of thread)... btw, Tito woul've obliterated Pav in 8 or even less, as most would probably agree now!

 

Even though I think Tito would beat Pavlik, I disagree that Tito won atleast 2 rounds vs Hopkins. There weren't even any close rounds.

Trinidad landed ZERO clean punches....Maybe one weak little uppercut right before Steve Smoger pulled Hopkins trunks up. Maybe.

Hopkins dominated the entire fight. It was a master peice and it catapulted the obscure Hopkins into stardom.

 

Maybe on Harold "Ring Generalship" Lederman's and George "Excuse me while I go and lap up the ball-sweat in Tito's corner" Foreman's score-cards, but not the people who actually know how to score a fight. He also got knocked the **** out.

Well, I didn't think he did, but if you're going to be so tenuous as to make a pick on this fight based on the fact that Trinidad somehow won two rounds more than Pavlik in facing Hopkins (before getting knocked the **** out), you might want to take account of the fact that the judges didn't think so.

The version of Hopkins that fought Trinidad was no better equipped to fight Pavlik than the one that actually did fight Pavlik. What he lost in athleticism between the two fights he gained in technical defence and ring craft (particularly feints and strategic clinching). On a side note, Hopkins was also past his athletic prime when he fought Trinidad, just so you know.
