I like Honeyghan early in the upset. I think he'd be the underdog and that role would suit him much better than as a favorite. He'd be well prepared and Trinidad was caught early by lesser fighters than Lloyd. And i think Honeyghan has the tools and accuracy to finish him once he gets hurt. And he'd better finish him because he cannot take a leftook from Felix for 12 rounds. I think this is the nice type of upset where a guy can certainly spring a surprise on the favored fighter and come out with the win. I sure don't see him winning a rematch or making too many other title defenses, but this would and could be a rise to the occasion fight and he did some job on Curry.
Could be more interesting than many might think, given the historic reverence Felix is held in compared to Lloyd in many quarters, Given Felix's penchant for visiting the canvas early, and Lloyds Sprint-Attack Ability, Circa the Curry -Bumphus - Hatcher Period (before the rot set in !) I am quite prepared to belive that he would taste the canvas here also, and you can be sure that unlike say Lushing, Lloyd would go in all guns Blazing for the finish, This is where the crystal ball gets more hazy than usual, it could be that the jumpiness or calmness of the referee would be all that separates Lloyd from a stunning win, at this crest-of-a-wave time in Lloyds Career he wasnt known for letting wounded prey linger... However, Felix's experiance under fire and such circumstances, means that not only could he survive this "tempest Time" but may actually punish Lloyds Wildness in following up, They would both know that they were in with someone who will punish mistakes if presented with them, a period of mutual respect calm might ensue, but Felix would begin to adopt his usual hunters poise, a "Track-to-Whack" methodology, Lloyd having missed his opportunity was a good mover, with good upper body movement, so Felix would not be able to exact a swift redemption for his earlier embarrassment, but the tone of the fight would be set, Felix the Hunter..Stalking...Lloyd the hunted looking to Ambush.... using The Blocker fight as an indicator, i think Lloyds Gorilla raids would become fewer as the fight entered its last quarter, to the extent that they become a desperate necessity to keep Felix off of him, Circa the 10th i think Felix traps a tiring, perhaps somewhat dispirited Lloyd on the ropes and starts to tee off with the towel fluttering in as the Ref Jumps between them, Lloyd was unlucky, on this occassion he found himself a sprinter in a long distance race.... and he didnt pace himself.... Felix the Cat pounces.. Late.
Yep. A nice match and like you said, it may boil down to the ref. Or where the bout takes place, as to how things play out. Or getting hurt and knocked down with 20 seconds left in the round or 85 seconds left. A dangerous dangerous fight. I'm guessing LLoyd can catch lightning in a bottle and I think he is far more of a riskier fight than the guys Trinidad fought at welter. I never thought there was a real dangerous opponent until Oscar, and I'm not sold on him as a welter. But that Honeyghan came to the US and did some job on Curry at a time when most thought Curry was not just a great fighter, but maybe becoming an alltime great fighter. That guy is tough match for Trinidad. And by the same token, that accurate and quick left hook of Trinidad's is all wrong for Honeyghan's defense for 12 rounds. He'll simply get caught and stopped at some point.
