Hmmmm... if McCallum focuses too much on the body he's liable to take a HARD headshot he doesnt see. But Punching power alone wasnt enough to beat him as he proved vs Julian Jackson, I think McCallum can outbox Trinidad from the outside. he did very well jabbing and moving against Toney
Totally agree with Robert Ungurean above. McCallum Outboxes and punishes Trinidad until he gets a mid round stoppage. McCallum would not be the slightest bit intimidated by Trinidad. McCallum is the far stronger man in the ring, as well as the superior technician. The body shots of McCallum against the sometimes soft mid section of Trinidad would take their toll. And McCallum's iron chin would negate Trinidad's one possible advantage. (And, I am not sure that Trinidad is the harder puncher.)
I think Mike stops him late on. He'll take the best that Trinidad throws whilst getting in those juicy body shots. He'll break him down and stop him around the tenth
This kind of match-up is something McCallum would have prayed for. Can't think of a better big name as a foil for Mike's skill. If we're talking prime McCallum at 154, I think he takes Tito apart worse than even Hopkins did. Mike's weak spot was the straight right since he held his left low. Can't even remember him eating a left hook of any consequence. Tito is tailor made for him.
McCallum - Wide UD. Personally, I think there's a lot of daylight between him and Tito, in terms of level, to be honest.
McCallum by stoppage probably mid to late rounds. He was the better all around boxer. Trinidad was awesome at `54 but Mike McCallum was an all time great in my opinion. The BodySnatcher could punch as well.
In today's day and age, I think it's fair to call Tito a great...but personally I think McCallum is an ATG...I consider him very highly...and think he could do well in any era. Hr stops the game Trinidad.
