Brown was laid out by Vincent Pettway, Trinidad puts him in the cheap seats when he connects with the lefthook.

I actually like Cotto, he's always fought good opponents by the standard of his era(you can only fight who is there at the time as the old cliche goes)and he does have a fine record as far as his own time goes.

I just don't and never have rated his talent especially highly and consider this one of the weakest 140-147 periods i've ever seen. Thus being a decent honest pro he has overachieved in said era.

Blocker was nothing special either and if he had a similar record to Cotto in today's scene i'd say as much(dont think he loses to the mediocre slow as treacle Margarito though) if he was getting similar props to that which cotto has gotten over the years.

But he was a decent solid pro in a better period(not even necessarily great itself as Mo came on the scene latter half of the 80s) for the Welters, cotto a decent fighter for this era, so its no big deal or issue for me to see Blocker getting the better of him if i think he has the stylistic drop on him.Just like i'm not going to be shocked if Cotto edges him....but KILLS, well there i think you're asking more of Miguel than he has ever shown in the ring.

Of course if you see Cotto as a genuinely excellent P4P type for all decades then obviously you'll strongly disagree.Me i see a decent determined fighter with a lot of flaws and no special talents who tends to struggle mightily or get beat as soon as the comp goes over lukewarm even in what i consider a soft era.Even Manny nor Floyd aren't special fighters at the weight they fought Cotto at.

That was a washed up Brown, we might as well mention the Hopkins loss as well.Simon was only ever very good at Welter, above that i doubt many disagree Tito bashes him to bits.

I dont think that Cotto is a P4P for the ages, but he was certainly as good as Blocker and a lot stronger. The fight with Brown and Blocker might have been close on the cards, but I remember that fight pretty well. Blocker was throwing beebees and Brown was throwing bombs with no respect. These guys were close friends but Brown just walked right through him and approached the fight knowing he was a lot stronger than his old friend and would eventually get him. Thats exactly what he did and how I see a fight with Cotto playing out. Blocker was a good technician but he would be able to make it to the final bell against Cotto.

I dont know that Brown was washed up against Pettway either, maybe the beginning of, but Brown had never been knocked out like that.

Cotto and Blocker were both physically below average Welters imo.Strength isn't something i'd associate with either of them.Blocker was at least strong enough not to get manhandled by starling and Honeyghan, both physical forces at the weight, far more so than Cotto.

I always thought Simon had a short prime myself, one of the things i'd hold against him in any discussion of where he rates as a Welter.Post McGirt he was just an ok fighter imo, even before that for a few years he had been abandoning his skills in favour of powerpunching.

If Brown had an iron chin, then Tyrone Trice is an all time great puncher, cause he had Brown very close to being out in their first fight.

    Brown's chin wasn't iron.

Cotto would **** Blocker up! You've gotta be kidding me with that one.

And Jones, although a big puncher, was too limited to beat Cotto.

FOR THE RECORD, I would pick Brown to stop Cotto late, in a fight where Simon would be slightly behind on the cards. But its a more competitive fight than Brown-Tito.

If anything, TITO is being underrated here.

Tito was simply a level above Brown.

Break it down for us. What's your evidence?

Cotto hasn't ****ed anyone up at welter bar one of weakest fighters physically of all time (Quintana) and one of the mentally weakest fighters of all time (Judah).

At best, it would be a close fight. At best.

No problem with rating Tito above Brown, i tend to agree with it myself.

Cotto is the fighter that's always been overestimated on this board. And continues to be so.someone like Blocker or jones is actually his level as far as competitive interesting fights go(something he's shown with his struggles and defeats to the likes of old arse Mosley and Margarito and yet he seems to constantly get put in against fighters a few levels above that.I've seen him getting picked to do well against everyone south of Hearns and Leonard on here.

I think maybe the Tito and Norris fights are being held against him too much.

I thought he was on the downside post-norris beating anyway, but Cotto is exactly the sort of fighter who those two would feast on as well.Dodgy durability, undersized, not enough offensive skills or power to really keep them off and just an ok but hardly great pointscoring stylist. He'd be out of there sometime between 2 and 8 rounds.

Well I'm in the minority it seems because I had Blocker beating Starling 7-5.

Cotto is not that effective on the outside that he could do that. And he isn't going to be able to bring the heat Moochie did physically in regards to a bout with Blocker.

It's gonna' be super close IMO, I could see it going either way but this 'Blocker has no chance' and thoughts of Cotto wasting him in one-sided fashion are preposterous.

Blocker achieved something that Cotto has yet to do; he beat the no.1 fighter in his division.

It's been a while since i watched it all, but i remember Blocker Honeyghan being very close as well.

As flawed as he became, Honeyghan hadn't yet totally abandoned his skills and was a quick handed physical force at the weight, yet he couldn't walk through the explosive thin man.

T-rex armed Cotto is going to have hell outboxing him or getting to him consistently.

Decent Fighters like Blocker, Breland, Jones or a few from the 90s like post Chavez Meldrick Taylor(wins against the underrated superman Davis and big punching Glenwood Brown are as good as any of Cotto's Welter scalps) and Claws Espana could have easily racked up the kind of title runs Cotto has, without better fighters in their way like Starling etc

Essentially Blocker looked better against Starling than Nunn did, taking everything into consideration.

I see the fight playing out almost exactly like Brown Blocker. Blocker boxes from the outside and can hold off Cotto for a few rounds and then Cotto starts tagging him and breaking him down and stops him mid to late rounds.

    Cotto doesn't possess Brown's power.
