I wish someone like Freddy Roach took a hold of Verdejo. I've always said, had Cotto started his career with someone like Roach, he would have become an even greater fighter than he already became.

He is in His second year and 21 year old, Puertoricans tend to step up pretty fast and most of them are not even prepared, but the same hypocrites defend mexicans because they fight 30-0 or even 40-0 fighting putrid opposition but they give them a pass. Give Him time they are maturing Him so He can adjust His flaw and use His brain more. He is fighting fighters with 30 fight or more with winning records so they are not horrible. He is not fighting 1-3, or 2-22 kind of record pad. He is schedule to fight Ivan Najera next on HBO so at least He is fighting a prime young fighter.

Roach knows how to amplify fighters strengths and minimize their weaknesses. Verdejo will need that. He is ultra talented.

2nd year? He debuted in December of 2012.

He is a 17-fight veteran prospect, still in with soft opposition such as Lopez. :conf

Yes, he will finally be matched tough in June, with Najera. That will be telling. :good

It will be in NY in line with the PR day parade. Thats major promotion. I kind of agree with you as well. They can take it easy with him, as long as he doesn't camp out with a major belt against **** opposition.

He started at 130 but His team move Him up to 135lbs. HE have some Puerto Rico laziness too, He weighted above weight in His first try.

He is a more athletic and talented fighter than any of those, if he doesn't surpass them he will have underachieved. Every fighter has flaws, Verdejo has strengths that make him elite. Best prospect in boxing.

...oh boy...some people really need to start watching guys like Tanaka, T. Inoue, Ken Shiro, S. Omori...and that's without digging up guys like K. Matsumoto or H. Maruta...

Well 2.5 year old, He could had fought better opposition When He was 8 to 12 pro fights that fought no experience builder opposition but now He is doing good. Have hight hopes in Him, Hope that if He manage to beat Najera they wil match Him with an experience contender or a former champ maybe not prime but not shot. Another name they put was Casey Ramos

Um, you've noted his defense? (or, you know, lack thereof?)

With time, his footwork should make up for that. The kid has excellent timing. In boxing its all about using your strengths to cover up your weaknesses.

That isn't enough if you run into somebody else in your weight class who also happens to be quick and have great timing. Never patching up your defensive holes will cost you, over time.
