This is such WBC bull****. Nelson won the fight fair and square and in the 2nd fight he literally separated Fenech from within an inch of his life.

No it does not because he did not win the fight.

I was such a hard core sports fan as a kid, especially boxing, that the Fenech -Nelson robbery really upset and angered me. I just feel that this is too little, too late and too confusing. It was a crazy robbery though. I wonder if there was a big sum of money paid under the table for this to happen? I'm not sure how I feel about this, right now. What about worse robberies (which there has been) especially on undercards, unknowns being totally ripped off to house fighters? Some of those points decisions in Germany decades back were absolutely crazy in title fights. Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray the rematch, very big fight with big implications?
I just think that obviously Fenech v Nelson is something that happened which cannot be undone no matter how much someone or some organisation may try to.

10 seconds extra in the 1st fight, Nelson gets ko'd. Fenech won.... but it was ruled a draw. Im sorry, one just has to live with the draw. We shouldnt change history (but thats what this is all about. from tearing down statues, etc).

I WOULD like to see a W taken off Floyd and awarded to Castillo... 49 - 1 sounds so much better.

If you were being objective, you would recognise that the majority of people who witnessed the first Fenech v Nelson fight consider it to have been a disgraceful, shameful robbery. I witnessed the fight & didn't actually, but I recognise that the majority of those who saw it felt that way.

And it was never a 'win' for Azumah, it was scored as a draw. Please don't talk nonsense about it being a 'fair and square' win for Azumah when it was scored a draw.

You're right about Azumah winning the rematch which is why it doesn't matter if the result of the first fight is changed from a draw to a Fenech win. Doing so has consequences for Fenech but b/c of the rematch result, none for Azumah (unless you consider changing a D to an L on his record is a significant consequence). Perhaps you do but the change definitely does not affect Azumah's place in history. He will always be remembered as a better Junior Lightweight than Jeff which he was.

By my reckoning, the WBC owes Azumah another world championship belt in recognition of his reclaiming the world championship in the rematch with Fenech. First (and only) man in history to win the Junior Lightweight world championship three times.

I watched the fight and Uncle Azumah did not lose it. You and Fenech may not like it but facts are facts. Fenech is like a spoilt snotty nosed kid who can’t accept he did not win. In the rematch Azumah did not need the judges and dished out his own justice full stop. Nelson is superior to Fenech at everything.

You are always going to see it your way Olu. You saw your Uncle winning the first fight, many did not but that's how you feel about it.

No doubt Azumah ground poor Jeffrey up like a fresh batch of Oblayo in the rematch.

I always felt it was disgraceful scoring in that fight, however I was very biased for Fenech and haven't re-watched it for a few years.

Oh yes Uncle Azumah cooked him good and proper in the rematch. Literally if the referee did not stop it with the final knockdown the Thunder from Down Under would have been extinguished forever. Azumah would have stopped Fenech in the first fight had well had he not contracted a bad bout of malaria which incidentally the WBC were aware of at the time. So it a bit rich that Jose Sulaimon's son tries to change the results so many decades later retrospectively. What a bunch of punks Sulaimon and Fenech are. Lost all respect for them. If you feel you won the first fight like Fury and Azumah did you dont ***** about it rather a true champion goes into the rematch and becomes sword of vengance. Fenech could not do it in the ring but bribes the WBC to change the result, what a ****ing wanker he is, if this is true.

I doubt that Jeff has that much spare cash now. Though he lives a very comfortable life.

He may have given a few watches as "gifts".

Fenech clearly has some connections with the WBC. I personally thought he won the first fight and should have gotten a fair shake the first time but you shouldn't just be awarded a title after 31 years when there's been so many other outrageous robberies that also took place. Why should he be the only one to be awarded?

But you know how the saying goes... it is what it is. It's all politics.

If anything WBC just decided to give him a belt but the decision remains the draw it was. As for the WBC shabby treatment of one of their greatest ever champions in Azumah Nelson the great. Whatever next the WBC heavyweight belt should be put in Kenny Norton's dug up grave because many thought he won the 3rd fight against Ali?

For those curious. This is actually a great brawl. You decide for yourself who won.

116-112 Azumah Nelson the Great the conqueror of Australian Jeff Fenech when he was an undefeated fighter.
