I've just watched the Thrilla in Manila documentary and Ferdie Pacheco comes across as a complete jack*ss. What is the general perception of him in boxing?
The whole thing has made me rethink my opinion on the popular consensus of Ali too. I don't know if it was painted as a very pro Frazier production but Ali's behaviour left a bad taste in my mouth.
................I haven't seen the documentary you speak of (unless it was the NBC Sports "Greatest Fights Ever" installment), rather I just remember years of bad commentating on that particular network.
Absolute ****, to put it mildly. Even more self absorbed with delusions of self importance than Cosell.
i think he is a knowledgeable guy on boxing but he really does annoy me especially on that thrilla in manilla programme where he said frazier was dumb to keep fighting ali in manilla
Ferdie was around the Ali camp too long to be really objective in TV announcing. Best thing he did was to tell Ali to quit fighting....though he couldn't actually make Ali stop taking those poundings that Don King had Ali do.
Thanks for all the feedaback. First time I've posted a thread so appreciate everyone's opinion. Most people seem to have the opinion I've come to. He seems very self absorbed, almost like he was the one fighting and as a result was the oracle of all fight knowledge.
