I missed the result in Luques Castillo vs. Paz as I was on my way home from sushi dinner (having been watching on my phone with a rapidly draining battery, dying a block from home) :conf

Anybody catch it?

 

Manuel Dionisio Echenique vs. Jorge Samuel Fredes, 6 rounds @ lightweight

 

This was originally supposed to have been a 10-rounder and seems to have been demoted so they could accommodate cramming more bouts on TV.

 

My write-up on this one:

 

Ah, mild upset then. XLC entered with a 15-4 (5) record balanced against Paz's 24-27-4 (1).

 

"Mexicanito" Fredes is wearing the red/black/yellow, Echenique the Argentine national ensign white & baby-blue.

 

This one is living up to my expectations so far.

 

Round 1

Echenique is jabbing in and shimmying to either side with a jerk of the head, countering with left hooks up top as Fredes opens up on him. Lots of short-range exchanges as Echenique falls in on his man, pumping away on the waistband throwing uppercuts with both hands, lips pursed and exhaling sharply, getting caught on the widow's peak by the odd left flung out sidearm by Fredes to punctuate salvos of primarily missed blows. Echenique keeps jumping in, threshing on the body as much as he can before Fredes either snatches him into a clinch or backs him off with a flush punch on the bridge of the nose. Frantic rush by Echenique, staying in Fredes' chest and taking horizontal slashes at the body. Wild haymakers in response by Fredes. Echenique caught by a jab between the eyes as he ducks away.

The commentators have it 10-9.5 Fredes.

 

...which of course means it would end prematurely on cuts. :!:

 

Round 2

Echenique is jumping all over Fredes and putting uppercuts together in a nonstop barrage downstairs, occasionally bringing waterwheel overhands down on Fredes' shoulders and throat. Echenique switching up yo-yo tricks, first walking the dog and then around the world. Echenique cuts as their heads clash. Ref calls "MEDICO! MEDICO!". Time in. Echenique now becomes even more aggressive, darting out and showboating with arms up after landing a few unanswered on Fredes.

Wow, I've had bad crab but usually not that fast-acting..
