Well, Montiel vs. Perez did happen tonight but it wasn't shown on TV. :fire

Kochulito reportedly won via TKO3.

I'd still be wary to throw him in with an elite puncher too soon. Nishioka can probably wait until some time in 2012.

Right now they're showing a replay of Tomas Rojas vs. Suriyan Por Chokchai from this past Friday. It's entering the 11th.

 

Actually, it's "Azteca 7 (Siete)". :conf Different channel, I guess?

They had the usual Box Azteca logo running throughout Chokchai-Rojas.

So if they DID have the cameras running during Montiel-Perez, why not just show it live on the main broadcast?? :? Why wait to put it on a sister station on delay, split up from its own undercard and instead packaged with something from earlier in the week and completely unrelated?

 

OK, this is a bit anticlimactic but...

Round 1

Montiel starts to come forward, but stops on a dime and starts to circle left. Perez busily drills his right jab through and tries to whip out a looping left behind it. Montiel just slap-parries and keeps moving laterally. A 1-2 to the body by Montiel is side-stepped. Nobody is landing. Montiel is keeping distance and stretching his legs out in a wide stance. The Nicaraguan comes clapping in and they clinch as he rams his forearm against Montiel's head. They separate and Perez comes right back with another forearm blow and Montiel flies backward, on his ass!!!!!!!! It is ruled no knockdown! The force definitely sent Montiel back, but it was an arm smash rather than a legal scoring punch. Montiel stays outside and works some long rights to the body. Now Montiel steps inside at the ten second clap and opens up on Perez with a vicious combo. Five quick shots, with Perez answering back with about two.

(some refs might have ruled that a knockdown, which is a potential three point swing)

 

They showed a slow motion replay from another angle. The left forearm of Perez didn't even connect. Montiel just went off balance while throwing his own punches at the air, and Perez kind of shoved him with his right arm as he was already tipping back.

Definite non-KD.

 

They began the round zoomed in on the Tecate girl's red shiny camel toe. :shock:
