Yet another fighter with "stuff in the basement".

Anyone support him? I mean he is only 33 after all, but obviously has more wear, and tear, than your average 33 yo fighter.

And does anyone think he will win enough to secure a Chavez Jr fight? Or at least a fight with a decent amount of buzz about it?

Vargas is friends with Chavez Sr, why the **** would he want to try and knock his idol's son head off dummy?

Because that's apparently what my source said he is targeting eventually dummy.

Ever heard of fighters putting friendships aside to make a fight?

Vargas could probably still beat some fringe contenders although hell never be elite again... A fight with him an Chavez JR would be intresting and possibly an even match, not a slight to Chavez JR but i think Vargas has more left then some here think.

Vargas will never beat anyone of note. He needs to stay eating his food and living like a fat king in CA.

    I think you're right.

If Vargas gets in proper shape, mixed with the right matchups, he can work his way back to at least an eliminator.

I cant believe vargas is only 33, he is like 45 in boxing years.
I recently rewatched tito was vargas and damnnnn those left hooks in the first round and the eventual ko took a lot out of him. Then Oscar took his soul and thsi was years ago.

I agree, it is crazy to think Vargas is only 33.

But in the brutal fights you mentioned, they did take alot out of him no doubt, but at least they were against some of the greatest boxers of that time.

I doubt Fernando will fight the equivalent of a Prime Tito, in this possible comeback.

Ugh, I can't see this ending well for Nando. I parallel Trinidad-Vargas to Chavez-Taylor 1 and I have a bad feeling Nando is going to end up with neurological damage just like Taylor. I mean just look at how many tough fights he was in where he took a lot of punishment. Wright, Quartey, Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mosley, Mayorga. And that's just in fights, that doesn't even take into account the blows absorbed in sparring.

fernando was brought up quick maybe to quick but his boxing skill or class was so good even in his losses to oscar an felix it showed only the fights with mayorga an mosley he looked burned out an a shell of himself so maybe the time off brought that fire back an healed his body from that grinder he went through in the list of whos who on his ledger to give it one more go love to see him redeem himself aginst mayorga an maybe get 4 or 5 more wins not neseity it be elite fighters an asure his spot in hof
