[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8JLmDOFeJY[/ame] Three points. - Vargas was an exceptional talent. - Rushed in the professional ranks, he needed seasoning. - His wife is gorgeous.
:good We sometimes forget how good Vargas was. Had Julio Cesar Chavez been as rushed as Vargas, he'd have probably met the same fate.
Cool video, Fernando is a cool dude. Never seen that Republica Deportiva clip of him proposing to his wife. She's not bad at all.
Here are the three things that stand out in my mind when I hear the name Fernando Vargas. 1. Vargas showed his tremendous heart in coming back in the fight against Felix "low blow" Trinidad. Trinidad couldn't believe that Vargas had gotten up so many times and managed to floor him so he low blowed him to death. 2. Vargas enjoyed food way too much and it really ruined what was left of his career. 3. Vargas was caught using steroids against ODLH and despite the action-packed fights that he was in, I'll always remember him with other cheaters such as Trinidad and Margarito.
Vargas was such a huge telent. One of the most wasted talents in recent years IMO. Altough he failed at the top level he was always entertaining, his fight with Trinidad was just awesome, altough he started slowly he then outboxed Trinidad till Tito adjusted. Fought everybody, still holds the recford for the youngest JMW champ in history. He seems a cool guy aswell,he's a normal guy, eats mexican food, drinks Patron, etc. Glad he's doing good now with movies, clothing line and his promotional company.
"What is it to you mother ****er" I almost had a heart attack because I laughed so hard. Vargas is hard man its unfortunate his career did not turn out how it was supposed to. Today vargas would have been top 3 Jr Middleweights for sure.
This is what I mean, why the **** was he fighting for a world title in only his 15th professional fight? Winky Wright, Campas, Quartey and Trinidad inside 21 professional fights. Crazy. He should have been fighting contenders for at least another few years before fighting that level of competition.
I know people hate Vargas but he was fun to watch. Guy was definitely no saint. He got busted with roids but I still feel to this day he didn't know. He probably should have asked what he was taking in camp or realized that he looked HUGE compared to previous fights. I read an interview saying after the DLH he drove to multiple hospitals or w/e to submit his urine sample. If he was trying to dodge it I don't think he would have done that. I loved the passion and heart he showed in the ring. One of my fav fighters when I first started watching the sport almost 10 years ago.
Top 3? In his prime he might be #1 Hed be almost even money with Williams and Id pick him over Martinez. He would be a big favorite over the rest.
Vargas is on of my favorites,iVe met him several times went to his after party at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay after he beat Quartey, Every time id meet him he would always greet me with "Whats up Loco" LOL . Lampley hit it right Vargas carred his emotions on his sleeve,Had a lot of heart in the ring and outside it.
:good Agreed addie I was questioning the poster who sais top 3, I think for the most part most fans admired his heart, but I think his skills are very underrated. I mean Vargas had wins over Winky,Campas, and Quartey by his 19th fight!! And thats when these guys were At the Top. That shows you how talented he was to Take on competition like that so early in his career. I think he would have been an ATG had his career been Handled differently.
Absolutely. Vargas was a good technician at times, he landed a triple left hook against Trinidad at some point during the fight. All landed, 1 to head, 1 to body and came back up and it shook to Trinidad. Was a really beautiful combination. Pretty much threw every shot in the book, and was outboxing Trinidad during the mid-rounds I felt.
