Who do you favor in this entertaining bout? How does Vargas handle the pressure and non stop punching machine that is Paul Williams? Might have to take Vargas by close decision.
I never thought of this fight before, I like it a lot. This would be an all out war. The vargas that fought Trinidad at 154 wouldnt be easy game for any fighter and I think this version of him is a tier above Williams. Vargas was strong, offensively sharp at this weight and also had a decent work rate, albeit not as good as William's. I think he'd use his physicality to bully and frustrate paul to slow his activity and limit his output. I think vargas wins this war in a close, but clear UD.
Prime Vargas was a class above Paul Williams, who to be honest, gets overrated. Vargas quite possibly stops Williams late - Paul had no defense whatsoever, and Vargas was very accurate. Vargas TKO 11.
I agree with you on Williams beating Vargas. However, I’d love to hear more about why you think Toney is one of the most overrated fighters.
