Tszyu wins imo. The old tszyu was Fearless, had a good chin and great ring I.q. he'd move forward no matter what. Vargas would land but he'd eat more than he'd give. Tszyu wins a tough UD decision.
Vargas beats the breaks off Tszyu. Vargas in his prime beat Winky Wright, Ike Quartey. And he was unfortunate to be in a very strong era just losing out to ODLH, Tito, in great fights. Tszyu made Bakhram look like a prime Tito and he himself was recently exposed for being very limited losing to Josh Kelly. Tszyu was just a solid fighter. Vargas was a good fighter and had potential to be a very good fighter.
Prime Vargas would crush Tzysu. Folks forgot how good Vargas was before his back injury in 2003. He was never the same after that. His wins over Quartey, Wright, Marquez, Castillo and Campas are nothing to sneeze at. I do think Wright edged him but Vargas fought Winky way better than Tito and Shane did.
It would have been a close and entertaining fight and I'd say Vargas would be on points by close decision, Tzysu was solid before Murtazaliev. El Feroz's aggressiveness would have made the difference, I remember his excellent performance in the most important victory of his career, the one against Ike Quartey (the judges gave him the verdict against Wright, but in my opinion that verdict was controversial, I had the score at 115-113 for Wright, and I would have considered a draw generous for Vargas. Thefts are different, but in my opinion, Vargas definitely didn't win seven rounds in that match). I heard Fernando speak a little while ago, he's punch drunk and is struggling to express himself, which is sad, he's not even 50 years old.
That fight with Quartey was so good. Going into it, I thought he was biting off more than he could chew against ike. I thought Ike beat Oscar and was going to jab Vargas silly. Vargas really impressed me that night. Not to many men had the physical strength to back uo Quartey but Vargas did.
