In a recent interview with La Opinion, Fernando Vargas said that he wants to fight Miguel Cotto. After watching Cotto's victory over Judah, Vargas said that he feels inspired to fight for redemption because of his loss to Puerto Rican Felix Trinidad. Vargas went on to say that a victory over Cotto would make him very happy, and he would hope that Mexican boxing fans would forgive his loss to Trinidad. Vargas also said, "It all depends on how I feel after the Mayorga fight, of course I have to win to have any future in this sport. If I come out victorious over Mayorga, I will definetly consider challenging Cotto for his belts.
Vargas doesn't look like he'd be able to get down to 147lbs. So he certainly wouldn't be challenging for Cotto's belts.
Cotto is at 147, Vargas doesn't even want 154 anymore. The fight isn't happening. If Vargas stays at 154 for the next three years and is still good then the fight MIGHT happen.
There will be no Cotto fight for Vargas. But while most posters seem to feel that Mayorga will beat Fernando, I'm not so sure.True, Vargas seemed to have not much left against Mosely, but he is still young, has tremendous experience, and Mayorga is no Shane Mosely. If Floyd came in sub-par against Mosely , he'd get his head handed to him tof course Mayweather never comes in less than spectacularly prepared, but if Fernando buckles down, he could make some noise at 154 again, maybe even 160. I mean, Taylor hardly seems unbeatable, does he?
Ain't interesting for Cotto. He has more attractive challenge in Mosley and PBF. Vargas doesn't deserve a fight with Cotto, he should make some tune up fights before even thinking about it.
I read somewhere that he was around 180 now. Someone in the forum got him on the phone last week, I can't remember who...
it was kirk. i think he said vargas is nearly getting close to his fighting weight. this would be a good fight for a last big payday for vargas, but a cotto move to 154 is 2-3 years down the road there's a bigger chance of peace in the mideast than vargas getting down to 147. much respect to vargas though, it takes a different kind of man to take the beating tito dished out and still try to get up.
Vargas has only looked kind of ripped once, and that was on steroids at 154. If he hits another training camp after the Mayorga fight, then it is not out of the realm of possibility for his making 147. If Vargas can defeat Mayorga, then it could mean a big money fight for Cotto. Vargas may not be considered the same threat as Judah, but he does have a bigger name. Another thing to consider is that Vargas does not necessarily have to make 147. They could sign to fight there, and he shows up a little heavy. Depending of the circumstances, the fight could still take place.
although i know this fight will not happen, I KNOW IT WONT.... i would hate it if it did. my man feroz right now is in no position to be fighting cotto... Feroz has proven himself as a fighter and a warrior, and has established himself as one of the best fighters in the world, now its time for him to establish himself in the world, like he has done and is doing... movies, buisnesses, ect. and TRUST ME, this fight WILL NOT happen. if this was a few years ago.... or hell even right after hoya... it would be a differant story, but now its just not the right time.
well... hes made 147 a few times in his career, but it was EARLY and when he was YOUUUUNG, and didnt have his bulged L-5 disk to keep him from training correctly. hes already said that making 154 nowdays KILLS him... so again, there is no way this fight is happening.
