Anyone know any news about him?

earlier this year I saw on Boxrec that he would fight again, but I do not know why he did not fight.

I'm not mistaken it will still turn 34 ...

it is probably hard to retire for a year or two and get back in shape to fight after years of fighting straight through. I always wondered if Leonard was secretly training between the Finch and Howard and Hagler fights. One thing Leonard did not do is gain a lot of weight like Vargas apparently has. Had Vargas stayed at least near 170 pounds, he wouldn't have had a hard time coming back, but he might have gotten as high as 230 as some guys do after retiring. Then it is really hard to comeback effectively.

SRL was always in shape. Even today in his 50s and 20 years retired he still looks in great shape.

When you train that hard or at that level of competition your caloric in take is at a level, if you stop training but eat the same, you get fat quick too...Happens to alot of professional athletes

Just recently, he was on the spanish version of "dancing with the stars' and he looked fatter than a whale dancing. No way he can make a comeback. It would take him a very long time to get all of that weight off and back into boxing shape. Besides, if he were to come back he'd get his ass handed to him quick. **** even Mayorga beat him in his last fight and Mayorga was hand-picked for that fight and Vargas still lost. Great warrior like Gatti but thats about it.
