apart from the deserved praise for Billy joe haven't seen too much comment on the rest of the bill so thought i'd put down a few thoughts first up was gary corcoran who has the very annoying habit of giving a girlie- tennis -player- type 'grunt' every time he throws a shot . apart from the fact that mr cocrcoran has the ability to land a variety of shots (whilst grunting) on a human punch bag we didn't learn very much. i suspect that there is a lack of power which will count against him once he comes up against anyone of any ability. the prospect of billy morgan chasing al hamidid round the ring for half an hour or so wasn't half as attractive as the chance of a decent pint and some nice grub in the Approach round the corner so we missed that one and the O'meara knock out. Luckily we were just back in time to see the very talented mitchell smith. whilst he wasn't as impressive as when we saw him on debut (and he's still wearing those bloody stupid shorts:-( ) we did notice how many unusual/unorthodox shots he threw. very good again and we're going to watch his progress with interest. be interested to know others' views on how far he might go. he certainly seems to 'tick most of the boxes' the buglioni army were there in big numbers and full voice to see their man triumph easily over an Irishman whose only interest seemed to be in getting himself out of the ring as soon as possible. he was quite disgraceful and went down after being hit on the gloves :-(. i hope he wasn't paid coz he was simply cheating everyone. buglioni reminds me of spencer fearon's albanian, qato. both are followed in big numbers, are quite exciting fighters but are fatally flawed.must be a nightmare for both promoters coz they must know that as soon as either of their men meet a half decent opponent they're going down and out , so wrecking their future ticket sales.course the problem is that they can only keep them in against no hopers for so long! last one before the brilliant billy joe was a susrprisingly interesting match up between skeete, who we hadn't seen before, and the likeable peter mcdonagh. mcdonagh always seems like a better boxer than his awful record suggests (see his performance against gavin) but we feared that with his age and the continual losses that he might be outclassed. fortunately he put up a very brave performance, particularly in the first 4 rounds when he just bustled forward and took the fight to skeete who didn't seem to have a clue what to do. eventually mcdonagh began to run out of steam and skeete found some time and space to do his work, much of which seemed like very pretty pitter-patter stuff. we had it evens going into the last round but couldn't argue too much with the eventual 2 round victory for the deeply unimpressive skeete. on this showing skeete isn't going any further forward and he's hardly the type of fighter to get the pulses racing pretty good night all in all. the ring girls were funny as well. my girlfriend was in the loo whilst they were deciding what shoes to wear and practsing what they should be doing. unfortunately they couldn't tell the time and we were 3 rounds into the first bout before they rushed up to make an appearance :yep. we were then amused to see their minder/manager showing them how to do it properly - a bloke in a sharp suit waving the board and wiggling his bum was quite a sight :admin!!
Buglioni is an accident waiting to happen, he is gonna get caught when he moves up in class however wazza is gonna milk him and his fans for a good while.
Skeete was awful as usual, Iv'e seen enough of him already and I don't want to see any more, not ever ever EVER again, next time he's fighting Im going to fix myself a sandwich and stare at the wall, until I know its safe and his head is far from view.
Skeete's main talent in boxing is ticket selling, He sells a fair amount and has the usual 'I know a boxer' crowd. They won't wanna know him when he gets beaten.
Talking of Skeete, I can see him being matched against Ronnie Heffron on one of those BoxAcademy shows soon. Rematch of their ABA final.
Yeah I agree. But whilst they both have their unbeaten records, I could see them shifting a few tickets at the York Hall for that one :good
