Like any boxer he has management team and a promoter who will look out for his best interests. Ultimately though AJ will right who he wants.

When Miller popped dirty AJ wanted Ortiz so they tried to get Ortiz.

Ironically another fighter who supposedly Eddie Hearn was deliberately keeping him away from Joshua.

Eddie is protecting his investment, even if AJ (supposedly) wants Wilder, Eddie will pump the breaks. With the 'I know best kid'.

 

He doesn't need to protect the investment. AJ v Wilder does massive numbers, AJ losing to Wilder doesn't mean he stops drawing money.

Using this logic why would Hearn have AJ jump straight back into the ring with Ruiz. If its all about 'protecting the investment' why take the risk of losing again v Ruiz?

Probably the second most common reason for high-profile fighter/promoter fall-outs (after ££££) is when the fighter's views on who he should fight conflicts with the promoter's.

It happened many times with Warren fighters where they would branch out when they got frustrated with Warren's usual risk:reward and big fish:small pond ratios.

Joshua is at a bit of a crossroads, in that the potential fights with Fury/Wilder need to happen before too long, otherwise the fights will cease to be relevant. It was 2015 & 16 that the three of them won their first belts, and assuming there isn't the big unification fight in 2020, means a 5 year period has elapsed without a definitive champion. There probably isn't that much longer to run for this particular cycle to run its course, and for the next generation to rise.

Lewis-Bowe for example was the biggest fight in boxing in 1993. By 1994/5 there were other more important fights, and by the end of 1996 it was a complete irrelevance. Timing is everything, and the clock is ticking.

As tight as Joshua and Hearn claim to be, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a shake up in the next couple of years.

 

There's truth in both sides. A loss doesn't normally signal the end of a heavyweight's marketability (far from it), but most people believe that if Joshua loses to Wilder it will be by conclusive knockout. That's what Wilder tends to do to people, and it's unlikely that he's going to outbox Joshua.

 

Hearn's ego would love nothing more than to be the man who has promoted the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, so coupled with the fact it brings in absolute mega-bucks, it's a no brainer.

Hearn wants this big time.
