I've heard that he has an extremely petty dislike of Cotto and doesn't want him becoming the next Puerto Rican star (not sure how true that is but I'm certain Zab touched on it before he fought Miguel). Also a bit cynical about the wraps, I know it certainly wasn't on a Margarito scale but at the same time it does make me wonder to a certain extent. :think
I can never truly be a fan of Khan because I like my fighters to be able to take a punch. It would be admirable if he could have a fairly decent career, but he'll never beat the best as the best usually have a reasonable dig. If he can beat figthers with a decent dig it's obviously because he has become a defensive marvel to rival Sweet Pea, who himself was hit on occasion :rofl In short, Khan's deficiency in the chin department has made me dislike him even more, even if he is fast. Seems like a nice enough lad, and has done a lot for his community, so I don't wish him any harm. But I'll be cheering on Kotelnik for the fact that Kotelnik vs. Ortiz/Bradley/Maidana/Peterson etc etc would be more competitive. Rooting for Khan is horrible....you know he could go at literally any second, and I find it hard not to wince whenever his opponent throws a jab (and I'm not kidding) For me, a fighter I can always root for is Shane Mosley. Good chin, fast hands, good combinations, boxing brain and power. But he can also lose. A big fave of mine Mosley. I also really like Roman Gonzalez and Thomas Adamek out of the current fighters (in terms of being a fan rather than thinking they're the best thing since sliced bread)
You might be right about the first thing. But from what I understand post-Margo loss, Cotto was basically out drinking, brawling in nightclubs, cheating on his partner, and generally being destructive. Tito didn't like this, he thought it set a bad example, the people of PR didn't like this, for the exact same reason. It's not how sports stars in PR are supposed to act and Cotto lost a lot of support for this. Tito was probablly just expressing his opinion, the same way everyone else was doing at the time. I've seen a few pictures with Tito/Cotto and Calderon hanging out and all looking very friendly and happy together. Although I know Tito is more of a fan of Juanma than Cotto. The wraps issue is a total smoke-screen, I can't believe how people still bring it up and cling to this idea that Tito was a cheat. This is all based on one fight against Hopkins. Tito was asked to re-wrap his hands, big deal. De La Hoya was asked to do the same against Pacquaio. Corrales was asked to do the same against Castillo. It happens all the time.
I wasn't a fan of the sport around the time of the Hopkins loss, I know people have said it was blown all out of proportion but other people make him out to be a cheat, like I say I'm pretty certain that it was nowhere near as bad as the Margarito incident.
Naseem Hamed. I didn't like him as a person but I always rooted for him come fight night because he was that entertaining and an unbelievable raw talent.
Bernard Hopkins - I love his analysis of other fights and also love his ring savvy and generalship but I hate that the latter also means his fights are spoiled affairs. He's also a poor loser
Good one I agree there. I love listening to him talking about and analysing other fights, it's when he analyses himself I can't stand him.
I'll always love my holy trinity of Oscar/Tito/Naz. They will always be my top 3 favourite fighters. I don't waste my time with hate, but primary amongst those that I dislike are: Calzaghe & Mosley
Not sure how to describe why I dislike Mosley without getting slated myself, but I'll have a go.. Firstly. I don't like his style. I find most of his fights boring. I think he is very good at what he does but what he does is very one dimensional. He has one tactic and one gameplan. But this is just a personal preference, I can't really explain why I find his style and fights so boring, I know virtually everyone else disagrees with me. Secondly. I think he has this 'good guy' image that is probably quite false. He used steroids for God knows how long, including against Oscar, and despite losing the 2nd fight clearly he still got the decision, thus robbing Oscar of another defining victory. (Not Mosley's fault of course, the decision, but still...) Lastly. I think he is overrated by a great number of people. Especially Americans in the general forum. He lost to Forrest and Winky twice in his prime. His resume before that was totally underwhelming. Apart from a good win over Margarito - a guy who may well have cheated his way to the top - and a close decision/robbery against De La Hoya in their two fights, Mosley's resume isn't up to much. Especially when you work under the assumption that Vargas was shot-to-pieces when Mosley beat him (at least in the 2nd fight). So in the recent past Mosley beat a cheating Margarito, went life and death with a shot Mayorga (Mayorga was ahead on one card going into the 12th), beat another shot fighter in Vargas and lost closely but clearly to Cotto. Yet Mosley is above Cotto on most people's lists, and also top 5 by default. Seems a tad over-the-top IMO.
Mosley not exciting??????? Fair enough comments but there's no disgrace in any of Mosley's stoppages.
He's got better in recent years, but yeah. I don't find Mosley's fights exciting at all. In fact I'd rather watch Hopkins-Wright than any Mosley fight that doesn't feature a cheating Mexican, or Oscar De La Hoya.
