Someone brought this up in another pist.

Im sure last year Setanta signed a deal with fight academy.

theres only 3 shows i can think would count in the 6 fight deal. woods vs gomez, hatton vs castillo, and maybe woods vs tarver.

what happened to the other 3?

think they were bought out of the contract once Frank arrived and wanted his exclusive deal with Setanta. which obvioulsy didn't last long!

I think Dunne v Martinez may have counted as a Fight Academy deal aswell, but don't hold me on that.

I was the one who brought it up in the other thread, and I think whatever the story is with the deal it is unlikely to be completed anyway.

    The real question here is...

Does Fight Academy even exist anymore?

yes, looks like there next show is at the donny dome headlined by steffy bull.

i think the setanta deal was made when they had hatton and woods. there was probably some clause to allow the contract to be cancelled if fight academy could not put on at least european level shows.

Is Woods actually fighting on, or calling it a day?

I think he's undecided, however if he continues fighting he'll have the chance of a vacant European title fight with Stipe Drews which has been mandated.

Woods had stated he'd retire before going back down to British level, but a fight with Drews would basically double as a World title eliminator, Drews himself had retired after losing last December but he must have returned from that as the EBU surely aren't stupid enough to sanction a bout with a fighter who has been retired 9 months.

I recall a story coming out of the Woods camp that he was suffiering from a virus - not sure whether that is BS or true to be honest, it would in part explain his awful showing against Tarver - but he doesn't like fighting abroad.
