I have always wondered why there was no point deduction there. There needs to be a standing rule on hitting a fighter when he is down, and not be left up to the discretion of the referee. Some consistancy would be nice in these situations.
Same here. Roy JOnes was disqualified for something similiar. It has been years since JMM/PAC fight and I have never seen anyone bring this up before!:huh Don't expect any of the huggers to bring it up but even Pac's detractors never seem to mention this!
you agreed with that decision kg? i never did. i thought a two point deduction and montel taking a 5 min break would have been fair enough
Nah, I never agreed with it (but I admit my bias, remember, Jones Jr is the only fighter I truly like). I just want some consistancy on the ruling.
I believe it was rounds 6 and 7, JMM caught Pac flush about 4 times and PAC just kept going! Hope JMM has some new tricks...
The ref had no choice but to disqualify Jones. Jones hit Montell while he was down, and if you can remember, Montell's head limped sideways onto the canvas where he layed for quite a while. .....the ref could have counted well past 10 and Montell would not have gotten up. My Point is that a referee has an obligation to put a halt to a fight when a fighter has been knocked out, whether it was by a legit blow or a foul. Even if Montell had gotten up and wanted to continue, what justification would the ref have for letting a fighter who was knocked out only minutes earlier continue? You cant let Montell Griffen continue at that point, he had gotten knocked out. I believe the commision rule states that a fighter cant fight for an X amount of months after he's been knocked out, they certainly were not going to let him continue 5 minutes after being knocked out.
eh?? Pac also had his right eye busted up against EM in their first fight yet Pac fought through the whole 12 rounds like it was nothing. And one more important thing is JMM is known for being a slow starter. Meaning he doesn't use up much energy in the early goings, he would usually go very active from the mid-late rounds. Pac, on the other hand, is like a whirlwind from the moment the bell rings to the end of the fight. Pac just never stops, and we have yet to even see him close to being half-tired. So I defo agree with Iole on the stamina part.
