Apart from week 1 anyone else a bit disappointed in them ? Week 2 and week 3 don’t look up to much at all.
This week is absolute garbage but I reckon they’re purposely doing it when it’s 2 quid a month. That way they can announce better cards in a few months to go with a price increase and people will think the rise is justified. Risky strategy mind if you don’t get the original subscriber base.
What week mate ? Week 2 or 3? I can’t decide what week is better because both them are below average . They already had the subscriber base they needed on the back of Canelo vs BJS to finance the matchroom deal. Once the price increases.... you would be surprise how few drop offs they have
Galahad / Dickens and Wardley / Webb are decent fights but the rest of the card is below acceptable standard really. You’ve got a world title fight supported by an English level fight supported by sub standard stuff, really poor. The week after is a touch better, with another good main event, but the remainder of the card poor. Ford / Bellotti is the highlight and that is very likely to be one sided. Week 1 was very good but I assume the remainder is going to poor, with one or two decent fights. Hope Jazza wins.
The blonde bomber will pull In more views than the Wardley and Galahad fights together. It's all about the views Koogs
200k isn’t much in the grand scheme of things though surely? What’s an acceptable price per month for just boxing? £4.99? 200,000 x 4.99 = £998,000 - VAT = £798,400 per month. £9,580,800 a year. 16 shows a year is £598,800 per show. Not that much once you take out your operating costs and then try and build a card.
Do hear what your saying but going off Hearn's interviews, the reason Matchroom left SKY is because DAZN made an offer "too good to turn away"......... So basically DAZN have thrown a **** load of money at Hearn, so baring that in mind you'd expect he should be able to make some bumper cards for standard nights of boxing (e.g Smith v Fowler) To be fair it's looking like Conor Benn will now fight on the Warrington bill in September so that will be some card.
This is how diluted and crap British boxing has become where Smith v Folwer is classed as a bumper night.
Week 2 is absolutely shite, Galahad Dickens is a good fight, Wardley Webb is fine. Week 3 is average. Buatsi Bolotniks is great, only other interesting fight is Ford Bellotti. 5 fighters still without opponents, disappointing considering Cash, Farooq and Jonas are all exciting fighters. Leeds card is more like it (maybe fans helps with that).
It’s a start and will be a loss leader. DAZN do not intend to be profitable any time soon. The goal will essentially be to recoup as much of the Matchroom money as possible. What they can also do is spread the cost of this across territories which everyone seems to forget. DAZN bought the global reach rights to the UK shows not just the UK rights. That means the contract will be paid for also by US, Japan, Germany, Italy etc. Rumours are the have over 12 million subscribers globally at this point and now turnover well over a billion. All the while they have barely made a dent in trying to build on their true core markets. DAZNs launch in the uk actually copied their strategy globally. They are using boxing to build a core subscriber base in core territories to alli W them to invest their funds into bigger sports. Over the next 5-10 years they will aim to go for the premier league and nfl etc. And will not just buy the rights in the US for instance they plan to buy global rights. It’s guaranteed money and minimal sales effort for the likes of the premier league. don’t look at this on a UK basis it’s a global plan and Matchroom are simply being used to drive that global core subscriber base to fill their cash flow so they can invest in the sports that matter to them down the line.
For a standard Saturday fight night Smith v Fowler is a good fight ? Been very well received since announced. Boxing in the UK is doing very well......... If British boxing has become "so bad" what was it like 10 - 15 - 20 years ago ?
