Im sure Sergio fought a guy at least 10lbs heavier, very possibly even 20lbs heavier. How does this create a level playing field? Its one thing if the fighters agree to disregard weight and fight a heavier opponent. But this weight draining/rehydrating stuff is BS. Why have weight divisions? Theres a huge advantage just based on weight/size. If a fight is at a 160lb limit, then fighters should be 160lbs or less day of fight. None of this one fighter is 160 and the other is 180 (not saying these are the exact numbers, but probably fairly close based on Jr's size and his past history). The "spirit" or intent of having weight divisions is lost when stuff like this goes on. Might as well just have Floyd or Pac fight Ward, why not, same difference in weight.

Impractical because boxing is a business first and foremost, not a sport.

Ideally, yeah, weigh-ins would be done 1 hour before the ring-walk. That would make the sport a lot safer because fighters wouldn't be so weight-drained.

idiot, im saying same endpoint weight diff at fight time, ~20lbs. Pac or Floyd weigh ~147-154+ day of fight. Ward ~168. Just have them make their own weights, and it will be same endpoint. not saying Ward to come down and make weight. Still a potentially 20 lb spread. So just have Floyd make his "welter" weight, and Ward make his "super middle" weight, and you got same end result of a weight discrepency that can be achieved as in the Sergio/jr fight by weight draining/diruetics-etc. Its not a fair fight with that weight descrepency DAY OF FIGHT for boxing, thats why they created WEIGHT DIVISIONS. But some boxers really expoit intent and purpose of a weigh in and weight division...idiot

Whatever system is used for weighing in, fighters will find a way to abuse it.

Junior isnt doing anything new, guys like McClellan, Gatti & Clottey used to cut similar amounts of weight & it catches up to you in the end.

Ward would be a CW since he wieghs more than 176lbs on fight night. Yeah, him vs David Haye would be spectacular.

Either instance, and your sentencing Andre Ward to death.

Fighters DON'T fight at their healthy weight. They suck it up and work hard to get down to a lower wieght class were EVERYONE in thier similar size fights.

So, Sergio should be fighting at SMW, Chavez Jr at LHW etc etc etc.

Hell, Ricky Hatton vs Vitali tommorrow.....make it happen:rofl
Or weight, how bout Vargas and Hatton on the same night vs Vitali since they both would be fine with themselves weighing 201lbs.:yep

Ward may easily be 176 fight night, floyd can easily be anywhere from 154-160 on fight night. Again, same approx spread. And again, defeats purpose of why weight divisions were created when they do this weigh in BS 24 hours before event and fighters "technically" make weight, but their true body weight/mass is not that of the weight division they are fighting in. If anything, it makes those weightdraining look like lil bitches. The big kid beating up on the little guy. We all know that Jr doesnt last 12 rounds with Ward/Froch/Kessler, even though thats his REAL weight class.

Looking at Chavez, I was surprised that WBC rule didn't come to play, he should have been stripped on spot.

It would completely change fighters weight classes. Guys fighting at Feather would now be Lightweights. Guys at Welter would now be Middleweights. Etc. I love it. Light Heavys and Cruisers would ass out though. They have to fight at Heavy now.

the official weigh in.... is the official weigh in. That's it. Those are the rules, and people find ways to legally find advantages within that rule frame

if you made the weigh ins an hour before the fight you would have fighters going into the ring seriously dehydrated. that's why it was changed in the first place.

JCC obviously gets an advantage being bigger but he also pays a price cutting to make weight.
