Fight last night was about two things, neither of them were "Proving" themselves

Both men have already proven themselves far more than near any other fighter of their generation, they have no need to prove anything more and obviously any wins they receive from this point are discredited by people anyway.

Last night was about entertainment and money. Two fighters with big names and the ability to draw crowds knowing they could both go into a fight with each other, make it entertaining and make a hell of a lot of money, potentially for both of them to go into retirement with.

Both guys receive 8 figure paydays in the fight and in Calzaghe's situation, was probably his biggest money fight.

So lets not pretend like this was anything more than that, and lets not care. Like I said, both these guys have proven themselves time and time again to us, if they want to make a little money while giving us some entertainment, let them.

I too find it strange people are either going overboard in their praise of Calzaghe, or criticising him and telling us Roy is shot.

It was already obvious Jones is past it before the fight to most logical people. Calzaghe performed well, did what was expected and it was fun to watch. For me there were no questions before the fight and nothing answered in it.

I would differ only in that most thought Calzaghe would win, but few thought Calzaghe would utterly destroy Jones Jr.

The fight means something in as much as any fight means something. Let's not trivialize this beyond all meaning. The contest was between Jones as he stands today against Calzaghe as he stands today.

They weren't fighting to see who is the better fighter at the best points in their respective careers. Simply, who is better now, or even that night. And Calzaghe came out ahead, emphatically.
