He didn't look like he was out of it, no. He also had to have known he was (or should have been) ahead on points in only an 8-rounder. Weird.
I guess I'll keep watching for the 4-round walkout between debuting welterweights. What else to do at quarter to one on a Thursday night?
Round 1 This is already better than Ornelas vs. Fogle. Omarzoda is clubbing away at Reyes early. Reyes tries to plant his feet and assert a jab. Omarzoda grabs him and wrests him about. Reyes jabbing and hooking off the backfoot. Omarzoda charging in with three-punch combinations and then slipping counters with an interesting bend-back-at-the-hips move before bunny-hopping backward on both feet. Reyes floors Omarzoda with a textbook check hook and that's IT!
He looked like ****, though. Flabby, unbalanced, and got beaten to the punch by a dude pushing 40. He acknowledged in the wrap interview that he's a slow starter and that'll probably never change. It seems judging by his actions and not just his words that he's also lost a bit of the fire. He may realize he'll likely never again share the ring with someone as good as Bernard (even though that was a lesser version of Bernard).
Well -- in my opinion he was on the wrong end of a bad decision in the Rubio fight. I thought Rubio needed at least a knock down to win. He missed out on a nice paycheck because of a bad decision. I thinks that's why I'd like to see him do well enough to get paid!
