I like the 30 day weigh ins and 10 lb cut off actually I wonder if am same day would be better. weigh in at 7 or 8 am fight at 9-10 PM to me is reasonable
That's the problem, not everyone can cut weight the same way. Just like some guys are short but heavy(Canelo). And then there are guys like Paul Williams. IBF has/had the right idea with the second day weigh in.
Shouldn't you be liking CEJ's latest instagram post rather than bothering people who want to talk boxing?
I agree but i guess this can only be for big fights? a lot of fights get made on shorter notice than 30 days
Completely agree because the real pros will comply. The cheaters won't. But the real reason this will never be applied going forward is due to TV contracts, i.e. money. What are the powers-that-be going to do if on the day of the fight a fighter fails the weigh-in? It would be a financial disaster. But I agree with you completely. It should be instated and enforced.
When I compiled a list of the measurements for titlists pre and post same day weigh ins change everyone matched up with the division two weights higher. Lightweights became welters and welterweights became middles. It doesn't make sense to compare the same division of fighters from now with the previous eras because they wouldn't be the same class.
Javier Fortuna and Sharif Bogere were both bigger than Pacquiao on fight night... I think it was 151 and 153.
The right idea yes but it's too vague. The 10lb rehydration clause is world's apart for flywe8ghts and cruisers. It should be a % of bodyweight
It could be optimized like they do with gloves. Imo there should be a weight pass. When you apply for a license, you also apply for a weight class. They measure your body fat and hydration during the process. The 30, 14 and 7 day weigh ins are also a great idea(hydration levels should also be monitored). Add to that the morning of the fight weigh in and it's a damn solid system.
I'm just saying that FIGHT NIGHT WEIGHTS DISCLOSURE should be mandatory. It would be very helpful to have numerical data to support studies in weight advantages. Maybe something like Gatti-Gamache doesn't happen. Gamache was 145. Gatti was 160.
It's hard to find the perfect system. I've known fighters who have dehydrated for the 30, 14 and 7 day weighs
I'd be in favor of that. I don't see the point in fight night weigh-ins, since the official weigh-in happens the day before. Ergo, fight night weights are irrelevant (barring a contract stipulation in certain situations). The real solution is exactly as you stated - same day weigh-ins.
The key is to measure body fat and hydration levels. Those windows can set of alarms if a fighter looses too much weight too suddenly. And if you have a weight pass, it will force a fighter to focus more on their weight.
I wouldn't classify them as irrelevant. If two MW's are fighting, and on weighs 164, the other 172, fans should know.
