I think I need to watch round 7 again, because I have no idea what everyone else but me is seeing. To me it looked like Frank spent the round lunging trying to keep distance to protect the badly cut eye, and Jackson stopped him in his tracks on the way in with his jab.

I just watched round 7 again, and I still think it's Jackson's round.

It's funny, I didn't even deliberate on that one and confidently put it down as a Fletcher round. But that's scoring for ya - eye of the beholder and all that!

Jose Luis Ramirez vs Pernell Whitaker

    Round 1: 10-9 Whitaker

    Round 2: 10-9 Whitaker

    Round 3: 10-9 Whitaker

    Round 4: 10-9 Whitaker

    Round 5: 10-9 Whitaker

Round 6: 10-9 Ramirez (Close, JLR finally manages to close distance and connect. He landed well this round, Jose still needs to cut off the ring though)

    Round 7: 10-9 Whitaker

Round 8: 10-9 Ranirez (Close, JLR landed a couple bombs this round and some good bodywork, he had Pea holding on this round)

    Round 9: 10-9 Whitaker

Round 10: 10-9 Ramirez (The best stuff of the round came from Jose. That he hasn't once tried to cut the ring off, yet still managed to win 3 of 10 rounds on my card against someone as fast as Pernell is impressive)

Round 11: 10-9 Ramirez (Good round from Jose, was able to finally coax Pea to stand and trade on a couple of occasions this round and got the better of both imo)

Round 12: 10-9 Whitaker (Pea finally gets serious and lets his hands go accurately. Best round for Pea since the 4th for me)

    My Score: (116-112 Whitaker)

First time watching this fight and feeling this wasn't a huge robbery, don't get me wrong Whitaker clearly won, but I can see why he didn't as the away fighter. Pea needed to be dominant for at least 10 rounds and he simply wasn't. Pea's antics like turning his back and jogging away, holding between Ramirez's legs constant moving away from the fight along with clinching in the second half did him no favors as the visiting fighter trying to take a title. His messing around clearly rubbed the ref, live audience, & judges the wrong way and it cost him.

That's 116-112 from you, 117-112 from George and 119-112 from me. No question that Whitaker won this.

Robbery? If it wasn't, it was pretty damn close to it.

I mean, I reckon it was worse than the Chavez fight. If someone like Philly can have Chavez winning clearly, then it's no robbery. I've never seen anyone make a case for Ramirez winning this one.

Oh and Whitaker obviously lost this one, as opposed to the draw.

Yeah, it was worse than the Chavez one from what I remember. I haven't watched that since 1993, though...

I never had Chavez winning that fight in my memory? I did score it a draw on fight night, and have redone it February and had Pea narrowly winning but still not a robbery in my opinion

Hang on, yeah, I see I was mistaken. Either way, if you can get a draw, there's an argument that it was actually a draw.

Must've been Del a Hoya vs Whitaker I remembered you having Pea losing

yeah I had Oscar wining that on fight night and a couple of rescores! I think that one is frequently called a robbery/gift and it’s really not IMO

I need to rewatch the Ramirez fight as I don’t have a memory of a scorecard in that one. But I really don’t like Pea fights despite his obvious skill level.

How long is this thread lasting? I got my sons home from college and the Army till Monday so probably won’t get back into scoring fights till Tuesday.

Yeah, the next one starts on Monday. Two weeks from the start of this one. I've not thought of a theme yet tho. Don't worry about not scoring them, it's not like it's mandatory

Paul Williams vs Sergio Marttnez I

    Round 1: 10-9 Martinez

    Round 2: 10-9 Martinez

Round 3: 10-9 Martinez (On the cleaner bigger punches landed over pressure)

Round 4: 10-9 Williams (Blasts Sergio with a punch that turned his legs to jelly and had him holding on for dear life to end the frame)

    Round 5: 10-9 Williams

    Round 6: 10-9 Williams

    Round 7: 10-9 Williams

    Round 8: 10-9 Martinez

    Round 9: 10-9 Martinez

Round 10: 10-9 Martinez (Real good round for Martinez who got back to landing the right to the body left to the head at will)

Round 11: 10-9 Williams (It's Paul who takes the play away in the 11th on the back of his heart, jab, & right hook while getting the straight left to work in spots. Both men are incredibly tired, and starting to get a little more sloppy)

Round 12: 10-9 Williams (It's Paul who has more left in the tank at the final stretch in what had become a fairly sloppy scrap at the end)

    My Score: (114-114 Draw)

Looks like a clear draw to me this time around, though in the past scoring it I did have Martinez winning 115-113. My memories of this fight were a lot fonder then what I watched today. Though still a fun action fight to be sure, I remembered a much more special encounter. Maybe the years have finally jaded me.

Although our round by round differed (not surprising given the nature of the fight), we had the same total and I fully agree with your sentiments - it was a decent fight but to my mind too sloppy to consider it a great one. A draw would have been the right result.
