Well, one of those guys was peak Roman Gonzlaez (a valiant effort). Yaegashi has now gone on way too long.

I haven't actually watched this one yet (blasphemous for me) so I'll have a score later.

Real good fight this one, I liked it more than Gonzalez-Carbajal 1.

I scored this one in parts, due to no reason other than exhaustion. I thought it was a pretty tough one tbh, based on the large amount of swing rounds.

Lots of awesome action though, Torres' face was a mess, and actually, so was Chai's, both men were exhausted. This was clearly a physically draining war.

    Kazuto Ioka vs Akira Yaegashi

    Ioka - Yaegashi

    R1: 10 - 9
A tense opener. Ioka with some well timed counters.
    R2: 9 - 10
Yaegashi forcing the issue. Left hooks and bodywork.
    R3: 10 - 9
A very close round. Ioka more effective.
    R4: 10 - 9
Close again. Ioka effective with clear shots.
    R5: 9 - 10
Yaegashi great work here. His eyes are ****ed, however.
    R6: 10 - 9
JUST gave this to Ioka. Skilled action.
    R7: 9 - 10
Akira doing better in exchanges, landing rights and hooks.
    R8: 10 - 9
    Ioka landing some pinpoint shots.
    R9: 10 - 9
Open scoring. Ioka stealing the round.
    R10: 9 - 10
Getting very nasty, Yaegashi landing some serious leather
    R11: 10 - 10
Very close. Probably leans to Ioka, honestly.
    R12: 9 - 10
    Great, great finale. Warriors.

    TOTAL: 115 - 114 IOKA

    Notes:
    • Damn, Katsuya Onizuka has a big beard now lol. Different from his 90's Boxing heyday (which I definitely advise you check out, wars!).
    • Joe and Yakushiji in the crowd, alongside other big Boxing names. Seemed a big event - first all Japanese unification.
    • Ioka is consistently leading with his head and sometimes his elbows, too. Should have definitely had a warning and a point took from him.

Chartchai Chionoi v Effren Torres 1

I love this fight! Torres throws the kitchen sink at Chionoi but he won't budge and Torres' attacks become more desperate as the cuts he has suffered mean the end is nigh. Such a shame that a fight this good had to end on an anti- climax.

    1 9-10 (close)
    2 10-8
    3 9-10
4 9-10 (big round for Torres as he staggers Chionoi)
    5 10-9 (close)
    6 9-10
7 9-10 (big Torres round, Chionoi shows remarkable resiliency and an iron chin, the only thing that stopped Torres getting a 10-8)
8 10-10 (tight round - Chionoi took first half, Torres second half)
    9 10-9 (tight round again)
10 9-10 (another tight one. Torres edged it)
11 9-10 (Torres goes all out to finish Chionoi but the Thai shows tremendous heart to keep coming back against the onslaught. Clear Torres round though.)
12 9-10 (Torres must be wondering what he has to do to stop Chionoi. He won the round, but by the end Chionoi was coming back - remarkable)
    (112-116)
    13 Chionoi TKO Torres

    Kusuo Eguchi vs Katsuaki Eguchi

    Round 1: 10-8 Kusuo
    Round 2: 10-8 Katsuaki
    Round 3: 10-9 Kusuo
Round 4: 10-9 Kusuo (Katsuaki won the first 2 minutes but was beaten badly in the 3rd to lose the round)
    Round 5: 10-9 Katsuaki
    Round 6: KO Kusuo

    My Score: (47-46 Kusuo) ATOS

That was hard to watch. You could tell neither man wanted to hurt the other, but that didn't stop them froming throwing everything they had at each other.

    CRAZY FIGHT.

The fact that these two are brothers, and went to war like this is insane. Jokes KO as well, took sibling rivalry to the next level.

Awesome war, loads of momentum shifts from large to mini, constant drama and some decent boxing from Kus. As a very competitive individual, a southpaw and the eldest of 5(3 lads), I was routing for Kus. I'd love to know the backstory, did they hate eachother, want to have fun or just thought "**** it, why not"?

Good fight, a little one-sided though. I liked Oba's jab, and González's Bob and Weave, both made the fight exciting. González could've won this, but he didn't find his mojo/get in the fight, until way too late imo.

    Good style clash, different levels.

Great fight, awesome action. Ioka was a good boxer, Akira too. Of course it all went out of the window.

I had it a draw, but it was a close fight and you definitely could've given the 3rd to Ioka. The UD flattered Ioka imo.

Akira is like Holyfield in the sense that I'll never understand how someone with fundamentals as good as that, who were so quick were so easy to hit.

    Brilliant chin from both men.

    Masao Ohba vs Betulio Gonzalez

    Ohba - Gonzalez

    R1: 10 - 9
A shifty, skilled round. Ohba winning off the lead.
    R2: 10 - 9
Gonzalez moving well; not doing enough to win.
    R3: 10 - 9
Ohba working the lead well, though he was countered.
    R4: 10 - 9
Ohba working, working that great lead combo.
    R5: 9 - 10
Tight round. I just favoured Betulio.
    R6: 10 - 9
Ohba controlling distance masterfully. Great skill from both.
    R7: 10 - 9
Ohba getting caught more now, but worked to win the round.
    R8: 10 - 10
Ohba countered hard, but he wroked to well to 'lose'.
    R9: 10 - 9
Ohba taking it off work despite equal skill..
    R10: 9 - 10
    Awesome round!
    R11: 10 - 9
Ohba landing sneaky shots and body punches. Gonzalez coming on late now.
    R12: 9 - 10
Tight round. Fighting in close now.
    R13: 9 - 10
Some hell for leather here. Another tight one.
    R14: 9 - 10
    Betulio landing some jolting shots.
    R15: 9 - 10
Awesome finale. Both exchanging. Betulio pushing Ohba around.

    TOTAL: 144 - 142 OHBA

    Notes:
    • A great, skilled battle between two great fighters. Deserved the re-watch.
    • Gonzalez such a brilliant, underrated great. Shows some awesome movement and ultiple looks here, before he became more of an 'iron man'.
    • Ohba has one of the best leads you can see in Boxing, especially lower classes.
    • Ohba was open to a left hooker, definitely.

    Masao Oba v Betulio Gonzalez

Excellent technical fight that heated up as the fight wore on. Gonzalez showed superb defensive skills and countered Ohba well but he was less busy than the champion and that may have cost him overall. Plenty of very close rounds so not surprised there is variation in the cards.

    1 9-10 (very close)
    2 10-9 (close again)
    3 9-10
    4 10-9
    5 10-9
6 9-10 (damn these are tight rounds!)
7 9-10 (superb defense from Gonzalez)
    8 10-9 (Ohba by a hair)
    9 10-9
    10 10-10 (so tight)
    11 10-9 (absorbing tactical battle)
    12 10-9
    13 10-10 (terrific action round)
    14 10-9
    15 9-10

    Ohba 145-142 Gonzalez
