I remember Lampley saying punch stats were lopsided for Toney in that round. And that was the round Toney hurt Jirov with the uppercut mid round. maybe rewatch the round. I agree with you on the 11th round although it was kinda close but not the 10th to me
Not with the 10 pt must system? It should be 115-114 (I didn’t realize you called 8 an even round but since you scored it 9-9 it is a Jirov round- an even round would equal 10-9 w/the deduction). Not trying to argue just getting the cards tabulated for Monday
Yeah you're right. Forgot to add the the even rounds. But isn't it 116-114 because Jirov got dropped?
Here my scorecard: R1: Jirov R2: Jirov R3: Toney R4: Jirov R5: Even R6: Toney R7: Toney R8: Jirov (9-9 due to point deduction) R9: Jirov R10: Toney R11: Toney R12: Toney (10-8) 115-112 Toney
This is always a fun fight to revisit. Jirov bringing the activity and forcing the action, Toney being patient, calm and composer and landing better, cleaner. I am not much of a Toney fan but this (and the McCallum fights) is among my favorites. 1 Jirov 2 Jirov 3 Toney 4 Jirov 5 Toney 6 Toney 7 Toney 8 Jirov (9-9) 9 Toney 10 Toney 11 Toney 12 Toney (10-8) Toney 116-110
James Toney v Vassiliy Jirov Great fight that was tough to score and a gruelling fight. Jirov tried to overwhelm Toney with volume but Toney showed impressive conditioning to get stronger over the second half of the fight. The point deduction in the 8th and the KD in the final round were key factors but Toney's superior accuracy was clear throughout. One of the best cruiserweight fights I've seen. 1 10-10 (good opening round - could have gone either way. The tone is already set. Volume from Jirov, sharp countering from Toney) 2 9-10 (Jirov busier and landing more. Toney on the ropes but not throwing enough) 3 9-10 (close. Jirov lucky not to have a point deducted) 4 10-9 (close again) 5 9-10 6 10-9 7 10-9 8 9-9 (point deduction against Jirov, who comes back well to take the round) 9 10-9 10 10-9 11 10-9 (close) 12 10-8 (incredible ending. Jirov rocked and then dropped) Toney 116-112 Jirov
Sorry for the delay in doing this I was out of town and didn’t have the inclination to do this. Thanks to all who participated, and this exciting fight yielded 8 scorecards (the most so far) and some good feedback. I do find it interesting that there was little consensus agreement on each round w/only 2 unanimous rounds on our cards 2 for Jirov and 12 for Toney leaving us divided on 10 rounds....showing that this fight could be scored in a variety of ways. Great stuff @PhillyPhan69. Appreciate all the work you put in for these kind of threads. Very interesting to see it broken down like that.
