I should have lol. I have Rocky up 6-2-1 but could see a closer card? I guess? To me the first 5 could go either way? But you would need to give all 5 to Gomez to have him up?

I think it's fair to say Rocky Lockridge was not served well by Latin Based WBA corruption. It's a wonder he did hold the WBA 130 lb. title at all. Of course, he kod a non-latin guy to win it.

The Duvas were smart to go after the IBF title when they saw an opportunity.

When an American won a WBC or WBA title, he had to deal with the political shenanigans of those organizations.

Of course, in some cases, if the American had a good manager, he could use the pathetic WBA rankings to his advantage. This is what Dave Wolf did with Ray Mancini.

I will post my controversial scorecard in a minute lol....does anyone know the official score of the Gomez vs Lockridge fight? The numbers listed on boxrec don’t match the ones read from the ring?

The early rounds were properly frenetic but I thought the better quality and more effective punching was all coming from Lockridge. I gave the 5th to Gomez but it was marginal.

Gomez vs Lockridge- I have always felt this was a robbery! I scored it closer than @Jel and @Pat M but still scored for Rocky. This seems a poor decision if not a robbery (to close to call it that by the way I scored the fight)...I can even see how one could score it for Gomez, but it would entail him getting every close round.

Funny that I am considered a Gomez hater yet I scored this closer for him than most. I actually like him and think he was great, I just don’t agree with the unbeatable at 122 narrative and his obsessed fans on here. Anyway...onto my card

    1 Even (10-10)
    2 RL (RL 20-19)
    3 WG (29-29)
    4 RL (RL 39-38)
    5 WG (48-48)
    6 RL (RL 58-57)
    7 RL (RL 68-66)
    8 RL (RL 78-75)
    9 RL (RL 88-84)
    10 RL (RL 98-93)
    11 WG (RL 107-103)
    12 WG (RL 116-113)
    13 WG (RL 125-123)
    14 RL (RL 135-132)
    15 Even (RL 145-142)

I think this is a tale of 3 fights
Rounds 1-5 I marked as very close and can see any of them argued either way...I scored 2-2-1 during them. It would be hard to give all 5 to one guy but I can see it. Gomez dancing around and jabbing and throwing more. Rocky pursing but not smothering Gomez, and lands the harder shots. Gomez uses a lot of dirty tactics (I mean this as a compliment lol) pushing Rocky’s face with his glove as they break, low blows, twisting the arms on tie ups. A very tough operator.

Rounds 6-10 Rocky wins very clear. I did mark 10 as close and might see even? It would be hard to score it for Gomez even though he came on late and finished well. Hard to give any of them to Gomez.

Rounds 11-15 to me Rocky was fatigued and/or lethargic. I gave 11-13 to Gomez although I do think 13,was close. I gave Rocky the 14th and called the 15th even. 3-1-1 Gomez during this stint. Duva was telling Rocky he was giving his title away before the 14th. In many ways he was right. I don’t know the judge rbr cards but Gomez was stronger down the stretch.

    I have 4 clear/wide rounds for Rocky 6-9
    I have 2 clear Gomez rounds 11-12

So for me there are 9 close rounds. How those 9 are scored can be the difference in the outcome (to me this prevents it from being a robbery, but just my opinion). To me Rocky won more rounds wide, but left to much to chance in the closer rounds. Gomez to me had the better workrate even if his power was lacking at this weight. If you like his ring generalship, moved well tied up strategically and scored with the jab I can see it. If you like Rocky’s pressure and infighting pressing to the ropes and landing heavier shots I see it that way myself.

Decent fight rounds 1-5 are a little tactical rather than action packed and the final 5 slow down as well. Entertaining fight with a disappointing outcome for me.

Pedroza vs Lickridge I initial thoughts.

Through 5 this is a very fun fight to watch. Lockridge is pressing the action (outside of the 3rd which I scored for Pedroza) and swarming Pedroza. It is easy to see why Rocky was a big crowd favorite in the 80’s. Aggressive and coming forward to fight. The commentary seems to not even acknowledge the brilliant performance by Pedroza so far. He is slowly backing up as Lockridge presses, but is peppering Rocky with a flicking jab until they go to the ropes. Once there Rocky hammers away, and the crowd cheers...but lost in this are the many missed, blocked, parried and ducked shots. Pedroza’s defense is very solid and his body work very solid. You can see his ring IQ at work as Rocky is landing heavier shots (not a ton though) and missing many others that will surely see his rate power and effectiveness wane as the fight hits the later rounds. Pedroza although spending half of the fight on the ropes does not seem overwhelmed. I could see the fight even if you appreciate the flicking backward jab (shades of Camacho and Whitaker) and the solid body work, which is not hurting Rocky it’s pretty clear that they will be effective slowing him down later. I have Rocky up 4-1 but I could see 2-2-1 or 3-2 for either guy. Ringside poll is 5-0 Lockridge, but I have every round marked close and wouldn’t argue it with great passion if someone gave a few of them to Pedroza.

Pedroza Lockridge I through 10 rounds. This has been a fun fight and is heating up even more the last 3 rounds.

The ringside poll has Rocky 8-2
    The commentators have Rocky 7-3
I have it a little closer at Rocky 5-4-1

I scored Lockridge-Gomez about a year ago and this is my score and what I wrote. It pretty much rehashes what we've talked about here already, but worth noting and asking those "why" questions again.

    Round 1: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 2: 10-9 Gomez
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Gomez
    Round 6: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 7: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 8: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 9: 10-9 Lockridge
Round 10: 10-9 Lockridge (very close to being a 10-8 for Rocky)
    Round 11: 10-9 Gomez
    Round 12: 10-9 Gomez
    Round 13: 10-10 Even
    Round 14: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 15: 10-9 Lockridge

    Total: 146-142 Lockridge

The problem with fighting Gomez in Puerto Rico is that anything goes. He is pretty much allowed to do what he wants. All the low blows and holding didn't get as much as a caution from the ref. How did Duva agree to 3 latin judges appointed by the WBC? Was he not aware of what Gomez was allowed to do to Zarate? Was he not aware of the weight-rigging in the Davila and Ndukwu fights. Rocky was the champ. Duva should have dictated the conditions and the officials at least.

    Lockridge-Pedroza I. Here we go.

    Round 1: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 2: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 6: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 9: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 10: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 11: 10-9 Lockridge
    Round 12: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 13: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 14: 10-9 Pedroza
    Round 15: 10-9 Lockridge

    145-143 Pedroza

Very close fight, but Pedroza was fortunate to have the WBA's house referee Stanley Christodolou working that fight. There are many referees who would have taken points from Pedroza for those repeated low-blows. Christodolou just repeated throughout 'keep them up', which was pointless. Still, great fight.

Haven't scored Lockridge-Pedroza II, but I recall seeing it at the time and feeling Rocky took it. Need to score this one.

    Pedroza vs Lockridge I

    1 RL (RL 10-9)
    2 RL (RL 20-18)
    3 EP (RL 29-28)
    4 RL (RL 39-37)
    5 RL (RL 49-46)
    6 even (RL 59-56)
    7 EP (RL 68-66)
    8 RL (RL 78-75)
    9 EP (RL 87-85)
    10 EP (RL 96-95)
    11 EP (105-105)
    12 EP (EP 115-114)
    13 Even (EP 125-124)
    14 EP (EP 135-133)
    15 RL (EP 144-143)

    Pedroza 144-143 (7-6-2)

To me there are only 3 super clear rounds, and literally 12 that could be even or go the other way. The 149 card was disappointing the 147 does not sit well with me...I feel only giving Lockridge 1-3 rounds....wow!

I think he was robbed on at least 1card and maybe both...but I don’t think the decision itself was poor.

Love this fight and both guys are among my favorites..I will rescore the 2nd one tonight or over the weekend.

I don’t know if you rewatched it or have a card, but I just scored it Pedroza by a point. Years ago I had Rocky by a point I am fairly sure?

Yeah, Lockridge got robbed. My scorecard was very similar to yours, except I scored 12 for Gomez and had 11 and 15 even. So 11-2-2 Lockridge. Being as charitable to Gomez as possible, I guess maybe you can get to something like 9-6 Lockridge. I don’t see any way possible to score this fight for Gomez. Overused term but this was a robbery. Rocky was landed the most meaningful punches round after round. Most of Gomez’s meaningful punches were to the bottom of Lockridge’s cup.

Exactly, even being generous to Gomez I can't see a way to score it for him.

Definitely not hyperbole to call this one a robbery.

Started Lockridge-Pedroza I this evening. A ton of close, tough-to-score rounds. Both guys are a pleasure to watch but neither is landing anything effective. Kind of reminds me of Lopez-Galindez II in those ways. Clancy is having an off night in the booth. He seems to be overstating Rocky's effectiveness at times, and he keeps over-generalizing about all of Pedroza's punches being arm punches (some of his looping body blows look and sound like legit punches to me).

I was tempted to call a bunch of these rounds even. Through 10, I have Rocky up 5-4-1.

R1: RL (barely; EP almost caught up late in the round)
    R2: RL
    R3: EP
    R4: RL
R5: RL (only big round of the first half)
    R6: RL (barely)
    R7: Even
    R8: EP
    R9: EP
    R10: EP
