    That example of the fight in Japan you gave is probably the best course of action.
    The rules may differ from region to region though.

    Castillo didn't even come close to making 135 in the rematch, which had something to do with the outcome. Their third fight was cancelled because Castillo failed to make 135 again.

    The mouthpiece was not grounds for DQing Corrales.

    Protect yourself at all times.

    Jose Luis Castillo v Diego Corrales I

    Round 1: 10-9 Corrales
    Round 2: 10-9 Corrales
    Round 3: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Corrales
    Round 6: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 Corrales
    Round 9: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 10: Corrales stops Castillo but is dropped twice and has 1 point deducted for spitting out the mouthpiece before the end.

    Total through 9 completed rounds: 87-86 Corrales (actual scores: 86-85 and 87-84 both for Corrales and an 87-84 for Castillo.

    Nothing wrong with any of those scores. I'm sure ringside gave a different perception with the power of the shots landed. Just a fantastic fight. Interesting to think that if the round ended - IMO - I feel the battering along the ropes by Corrales would have negated one of the knockdowns, so I would have given Castillo a 10-7 round. But that is just whimsical as the fight was stopped at 2:06 - nowhere near the bell. But as we could see in this fight, anything could have happened.

    I think I will sit down on Friday the 7th and review it on fight night. I have seen this fight a few times, but I did not watch it live...not sure why?

    Review

    Great fight from start to finish. Two warriors put in all on the line to give fight fans a fight they'll never forget. Corrales started fast sweeping the first 2 rounds, but Castillio took over from the 3rd Round on. It was very clear early on that despite Corrales holding his own, Castillio was the physically stronger & the harder puncher of the 2. As the fight wore on, it looked like a Castillo victory was inevitable, & in Round 10 him scoring 2 KD's seemingly sealed the deal. However, by a miracle out of nowhere, Corrales was able to turn it around & score a surprise TKO over Castillo to the amazement of the crowd. FOTY for sure & arguably fight of the decade.

    I cannot express my disappointment in @PhillyPhan69 for not reading the room and choosing a Frank Bruno fight.

    Diego Corrales v Jose Luis Castillo

    The first five rounds were pure phonebooth stuff, both fighters working inside and neither giving an inch. From the 6th, they started to make inroads into the other fighter's defenses and were hurt on multiple occasions.

    Still, when Corrales went down at the start of the 10th, it felt sudden. And when a fighter goes down like that, it is usually all over for him.Yeah, Corrales was lucky to get away with the mouthguard dropping but has there ever been a turnaround quite like that in a single round?

    One of the great fights.

    1 10-10 (close opener that sets the tone for phonebooth warfare)
    2 10-9 (Corrales rocks Castillo with a left hook)
    3 9-10
    4 10-9
    5 10-9
    6 9-10 (the action has been hot but it just got hotter in this round. Castillo got the better of it and staggered Corrales at the end of the round)
    7 9-10 (Castillo wobbled right at the end of the round but he did the better work)
    8 9-10 (Awesome, jaw dropping violence. Both guys are hurt and rocked during the round but Castillo got the better of it)
    9 10-10 (Crazy action - back and forth all the way)
    (86-87)
    10 Corrales TKO Castillo

    This still does not make my top 10 but it is clearly a top notch fight and well worth revisiting. Both guys were throwing with bad intentions. I still think Weeks handled this as well as I would expect a ref to do, even with the turn of events. Some good infighting on display here, and the come from behind TKO is a great climactic finish.

    I have it at no. 14 on my list. It's objectively speaking one of the great fights and arguably the best title fight since 2000. I actually loved it the last time I watched it more than this time. It's still tremendous, though.

    Sorry for the delay but I am moving into a new house (first time home owner) on June 11th so packing has diminished my time.

    anyway this was an awesome fight..thanks to all who participated and a special shout out to our 5 judges. A fight like this should make us appreciate and respect the difficult job of judges. Out of 9 rounds we disagreed to some level on 7 of them. Many times a fight can be scored in a number of ways.

    Corrales cards
    @scartissue 87-86

    Castillo cards
    @Pat M 87-85
    @Showstopper97 88-85
    @Jel 87-86
    @PhillyPhan69 86-85

    RBR
    1 Corrales 3-0-2
    2 Corrales 4-1
    3 JLC 5-0
    4 JLC 3-1-1
    5 Corrales 3-2
    6 JLC 5-0
    7 Corrales 2-1-2 (I didn’t know if I should score even? But I went with Diego 2-1)
    8 EVEN 2-2-1
    9 JLC 3-1-1

    at TOS we had Castillo up 87-86 (88-86 if you think 7 should be even based on consensus). We ranged from scar 87-86 Corrales to showstopper 88-85 JLC, I think anywhere between those 2 ballparks is realistic.

    Long term boxing trainer/insider somehow doesn’t know who won this fight?

    It only won the Ring Fight of the Year 2005 and the Harry Markson Award for fight of the year from the Boxing Writers Association of America for the same year. It’s rightly acknowledged as a modern classic and garnered a whole lot of attention then.

    You must have been in a closed camp for a while Pat, considering all of us ignorant casuals have been across this fight for the decade and a half since in occurred?
