Our first look at the lighter weights!
Hopefully Mr kool Kevin will be back next week! Until then here is his intro:

Reminder: The point of this series is to get people to rewatch, rescore, and discuss the actual fights. Even if you only have a few free minutes to watch a round and sneak in a quick comment, your contribution will be much appreciated...
*If you submit a scorecard feel free to make a recommendation for next week* Thanks

I wanted to use the Zapata fight but it is missing round 3...oh well.

Jung Koo Chang vs Sot Chitalada I

Does anyone know the official cards? I don’t speak Korean and can’t find it on boxrec?

Anyway, one of the most satisfying fights I have watched. Both guys are highly skilled (although my guess is Chitalada is pre prime? At this stage), but also dirty with quite a bit of fouling. The ref seems to be tilted towards Chang even though he gives him a couple of warnings, he gives more to Chitalada especially early on. It also seems like the judge deducted a point from Sot, so my card reflects that (please let me know if I am wrong, I can’t understand the commentary to confirm this.) Chang gets cut in the 6th (accidental head butt???), and really seems to impact him later in the fight.

    Anyway my card:
    1 Chang (Chang 10-9)
    2 Chang (Chang 20-18)
    3 Chang (Chang 30-27)
    4 Chang (Chang 40-36)
    5 Sot (Chang 49-46)
    6 Chang 10-8 (Chang 59-54)
    7 Chang ( Chang 69-63)
    8 Chang (Chang 79-72)
    9 Chang (Chang 89-81)
    10 Sot (Chang 98-91)
    11 Sot ( Chang 107-101)
    12 Sot (Chang 116-111)

Man that cut Chang suffered in rd 6 seemed mess him up in 11-12. It looked bad, I thought they might stop it in 11, but glad they didn’t. Fun fight to watch. If you have seen it, well you know....but if you have not seen it, check it out, it’s worth the hour.

Just got done the first 3 rds of Chang vs Chitalada II. Much different fight than the first one.

The first is a little slow for 2 guys who have fought before but it was 6 years ago, and Chang is a shell of his brilliant prime (but still good) and Chitalada has improved since the first fight (his 5th as a pro) and his jab is top notch.

Chitalada seems to control the early going with the jab and Chang seems to have difficulty getting inside where his superior infighting can shine. Some of his rushes seem clumsy and desperate.

Midway through the 3rd Chang scores and takes the fight inside successfully, looking the stronger of the 2.

Good start! Hopefully some more check this out. The lighter weights deserve their chance to shine with these two greats.

Lol if anyone watches the 2nd fight does it look like Chitalada catches Tge ref Padilla in the chest with a wild swing with about 30 seconds left in the 3rd

Padilla has done a horrible job officiating the 2nd fight. He is letting Chang maul at will that makes Ricky Hatton fans happy. But there are several shove downs where each guy has been pushed or both fall in the midst of the grappling. Chitalada shoves Chang’s face with his glove on a break, hits Chang behind the head. Loads of clinching, holding the back of the neck with gloves. Some brilliant fighting go on in between but Padilla is doing an all time poor job IMO

Chitilada was a very solid champion. Before he won the WBC flyweight title in 1984, various guys had played hot potato with that title. He added stability to that title.

    Chitalada vs Chang II

I was so upset I got done scoring (what I thought was) the 11th and the guys hugged and the fight was over....I couldn’t believe it...it was missing a round I thought but couldn’t understand the commentary (a blessing till this point!), to figure out what....I rewatched and rescore it a 2nd time...I must have forgotten to score round 9 or 10 on my first paper...oh well. I really only felt like 2 rounds (3 & 11) were definitive rounds and scored both for Chang. The other 10 rounds good luck and have fun!

    1 Even
    2 Sot (20-19)
    3 Chang (29-29)
    4 Sot (Sot 39-38)
    5 Chang (48-48)
    6 Sot (Sot 58-57)
    7 Chang (67-67)
    8 Chang (Chang 77-76)
    9 Sot (86-86)
    10 Chang (Chang 96-95)
    11 Chang (Chang 106-104)
    12 Sot 9-9 (Chang 115-113)

I believe Sot was penalized for throwing Chang to the canvas, and that Padilla deducted a point...I can’t find anything to explain it after searching for an hour...oh well. My card reflects that deduction. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Padilla did a HORRIBLE job!!!! But a decent scrap inspite of it.

I scored the first fight, Jung Koo Chang vs Sot Chitalada I and since I didn't know which fighter was which, I scored it as Green Trunks vs. White Trunks. I scored it 115-115, a draw. I scored 5 out of the first 6 rounds for the guy in white, I scored 5 out of the last 6 for the guy in green and I scored 4 and 12 EVEN. White trunks won 1,2,3,5,6, Green trunks won 7,8,9,10,11.

Both boxers looked skilled and both were in excellent condition, they fought at a fast pace throughout the fight and almost all of the rounds could have gone either way IMO. It seemed that the guy in white forced the fight in the first half and the guy in green was on the offensive in the second half. Interesting fight, what happened to the ref in the 10th? The guy in green seemed to be a little bit smoother as a boxer.

EDIT - Thanks PhillyPhan69, I didn't know about the point deduction for the guy in Green, so it would be a one point win for the guy in the White trunks - Chang?

    LOL
About the only thing I could understand was the names during intros....Chitalada was the one in the green trunks. + not sure if you knew...took me a while and then had to research on boxrec. Chitalada (Green) has a point deducted in rd 6 for the headbut

Not sure about the ref. I actually started a thread based on that question 2 weeks ago, but never got any feedback

NP and yes Chang is in the white Chitalada is in the green.

Tip for fight 2 both guys have white trunks lol. Chitalada has the white trunks with green trim. If you watch it let me know if the ref Padilla deducts a pt from Chitalada in rd 12. I can’t find any info on this one even on boxrec... but it sure looks like it

I believe the ref did take a point away from Chatalada in round 12 for throwing Chang down - again...I scored the fight for Chang, as usual a lot of rounds were close, but he was the aggressor most of the time and since neither was hurt I thought that he landed more punches. I gave Chatalada 2,3,4, and scored round 9 EVEN. The rest of the rounds I gave to Chang so I had it 8-3-1 plus Chang got the extra point in the 12th. My score was 117-111, but with so many rounds that could easily go the other way I can see how Chitalada got the decision.

This fight was not as good to watch IMO, as the first one. This one had a lot of both fighters grappling on the inside, holding with one hand, and one hand free for slapping punches. I like inside fights but with both hands free for good, short punches. A good example would be Povetkin - Takam. But, Chang and Chitalada definitely fought hard. That was a wild crowd too, and did you see the cornerman in the blue corner? He was under the bottom rope leaning into the ring, that wouldn't be allowed today. Interesting.

Yeah the fight was ugly at times. Part of that is Chang’s style to maul his way inside (some hattonesque work he does), but Padilla did a horrible job keeping it clean. There had to be 10x’s one of them was down due to a shove or push, or when the mauling became a little bit of a wrestling match.

The Zapata fight was brutal for me to score as well. I will post that card later on

I am going to make a rec for FOTW, with Antuofermo vs Hagler I (because so many call this a robbery, I scored it a draw the one time I scored it) and Minter I (because my memory says it was the hardest fight I ever scored).
